A Nicotine Hit - Am I Getting One?

The DAWG and I were discussing this the other night.

Is there such a thing as a 'nicotine hit'?

Over the years, I have worked out that I love cigars with a punch. The ones that I like most for this - in no particlular oder - are Bolivar, Ramon Allones, Partagas, Punch, and Montecristo amongst the Cubans.

I like cigars to sting my gums because they are strong, or to have an overwhelmingly pungent aroma.

I do like certain milder cigars like Hoyo de Monterrey, but will invariably pick up a stronger stick.

Does this mean, ergo, that I am partial to a 'nicotine hit' because the strength of a cigar is in the measure of its nicotine content?

I've got to be frank. I never think about the nicotine content. I always think about savouring the strength and complexity and cloud storms of a great cigar.

I think most of the nicotine has fermented away during the leaves curing process. The differing tastes across the brands comes from using different types of leaves from different parts of the plants. IIRC leaves from lower down are strong tasting and higher up are lighter therefore by blending the leaves in various proportions, the manufacturers produce varied flavours of smokes. If you use more lower-down leaf than higher you'll get a stronger smoke. Clear as mud??

So it's leaf geography, in a way.

The thing is I cannot remember being over-faced by any cigar. I don't feel woozily light-headed. I just love em and can light up the next one as long as it is a bit stronger, sort of thing. Same as eating cheeses. Start lightest and increase strength.

That does not mean I am a cigar guzzler knocking back stick after stick.

I know nicotine isn't good news for the arteries, but I'm not losing sleep over that. I'm not the heaviest of stogie smokers, and I think you take your chances and things will hopefully balance themselves.

I have seen people write on here that they were knocked out by the nicotine in cigars. It hasn't happened to me - that feeling - but then I'm out roaming the fucking prairies for days on end.

Let's not forget the trace amount of Lithium found in Cuban soil that makes its way into the fine habanas that we all smoke.
IMO, this is what makes fine habana puros superior to all other stogies.

Si senor. The great lithium debate was settled, as far as I'm concerned, in a early addition of Cigar Magazine - a great alternative to Cigar Aficionado, btw.

The author referred to a recent study which found trace amounts of lithium in Cuban soil which, for me, explained why I feel calmer after a fine puro than I do after a N/C - Fact!

TJ - lithium stabilises mood rather than elevate it. If you'd said there was Valium/diazepam in the soil then you'd mebbe feel calmer but Li won't do that AFAIK. The calmness you feel is probably the natural relaxation that smoking a fine Cuban brings about...sheer bliss

I know you read a lot of books and stuff, and you seem like a nice lad who knows a lot of shit, but sometimes you simply need to shut off your mind, relax...and simply experience the experience!

Everyone know, well...maybe not here, but every where else folks know that lithium can be used to augment other antidepressant drugs, which clearly have a calming effect. Just ask Sir Robusto....I believe he uses it on most of his students and a few of his band mates.

To quote a famous anthropologist/ existentialist, "To the things themselves." Let's see how many of the geniuses out there figure that one out.

Robusto,I have to agree with U . I believe there are large amounts os Nicotine in the more full bodied cigars that I've smoked form the Don Pepin line.I can't say about Castros line up but for sure Dom.,NC & houn. are deffinetly anped up with nicotine. Have U ever smoked a Don Pepin? 5 Vega Miami? If not Try and U tell me!

I don't know that particular cigar, gss. I'll try any bomb as long as it doesn't get me locked up.

Most of the teachers I know have been well blitzed over time, but we've been told that our conduct has to be drug-free, and that we can't carry on as we used to do in our youth.

I'm happy that I can get blitzed without fear of reproach on Cubans. The dope that has sat on my shelf from time to time has gone untoked and has been given to the needy.

I believe lithium is prescribed to manic-depressives / the bipolar.
