Lascaux, I think you are spot on. Being a gentleman does not involve impersonation. Integrity defines a gentleman!
This country used to be known throughout the world for gentlemen. Now it is known for football hooligans and lager louts. Is it time for the redefined modern gentleman to step forward?
one does not need to resort to impersonations, but be true to one's self!!!
in my opinion, the following are archetypes of the true, classic/ traditional british gentleman:
1. roger moore
2. leslie phillips
3. david niven
4. peter wyngarde
all the above exude confidence, have a rather cool/ calm temperament and know how to conduct themselves public ways!!! they take pride in their appearance and try to never offend anyone!! that, to me, is what makes one a true gentleman!!!
crawling on all fours and leaving five tracks, indeed!!!! lol!!!
Being a gentleman means never stealing an umbrella.
lol, excellent!!!! by now, it's looking like:
a gentleman is a polite, ladies man who crawls on all fours, leaves 5 tracks and never steals umbrellas!!!
