My Belgian mate Paul does our fixing & decorating. When he re-furbished our loft, he did it whilst we were in Spain on hols, came back all done & dust/ chaos cleaned up. I wouldn't suggest this with an ordinary contractor! We do pay him well but it's worth to save the time for smoking/fishing ect.
Here's a pic when he removed our heating oil tank last year. Cost us E600 but we did manage to get it out of the garage (sunk half level below road) without damaging the tank or leaking oil everywhere.Attached FilesSimon Bolivar: Liberator of Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru & Venezuela.

I try to do what I can myself, I don't enjoy it at the time but I enjoy looking at the results and thinking "I did that!"
Recently decided to remove the ghastly wallpaper that the previous owners had in the main bedroom and just paint the walls. To my horror I discovered that they hadn't been bothered to stip the paper underneath and just used PVC glue to stick all the peeling edges and corners down. Took me days and a lot of liquid wallpaper remover to finish the job, then because of the state of the walls it needed several layers of base coat before it was ready to paint. Worth it in the end though"Achieving life is not the equivalent of avoiding death." Ayn Rand

Big jobs = get a bloke in
Medium jobs = call my Dad
Small jobs = delegate to the Missus
But more seriously, there is a certain satisfaction in doing some of the work yourself!
I had new lights in the ceilings throughout my place back in November and the ceilings skimmed so it all needs painting... quite when I'll find the time, who knows?
