    Well we won. Almost enough to get me over my dislike for the game instilled in me at school along with rugger and Latin.

    To quote the BBC:

    "England retain The Ashes after thrashing Australia in the Fourth Test"

    and

    "England cleaned up Australia's tail to win the fourth Test in Melbourne and retain the Ashes for the first time in 24 years with a match to spare."

    On second thoughts, I am not impressed with the Beeb for once. That is a rather self congratulatory tone they have taken. What we are best at is being good winners AND good losers, something few others manage to pull off and the tone taken in that article is rather distasteful, I retract my adoration for that piece.

    Good show our side and chin up Australia, you cannot win them all. Try to learn some good sportsmanship along with how to play cricket before next time.

      Agreed, but Australia's aggression and competitiveness has made them what they are, in years gone past it was what allowed them to be so good.......however they're certainly not taking defeat well

        A young nation, like the U.S. Give them a few hundred years and some history and things will be different.

          Well done England but I have to say after 20 odd years not beating them in there own back yard, its only a matter of averages that it had to happen at some point...

            Bit of both.

            They had a poor team, we had an unusually good team. We should still have won if they had been a good site better. As it was we did trounce them as there was such a gap in quality on this occasion.

            The law of averages, I am not sure that applies, LOL.
