We have about a foot. Even I, an avowed snow lover, am finding the novelty beginning to pall a little. it seems to happen more often nowadays than when I was a kid and used to hide in case the school bus came.

I'm a teacher having a day off because of this. The snow is bad but not impassable and I'm beginning to think we are losing our collective balls when things are cancelled so quickly. We've got more fight in us that this!
Another teacher having a day off here! Snow in Essex isn't *that* bad and we have stayed open the past two days despite ever increasing snowfall. We could have opened today but I'd question the value of it - attendance had been on a steady slide since Monday. Yesterday only just above 50% of parents sent their children in. My class of 31 during P5 was down to 14! Students purposefully got themselves sent home through bad behaviour and office staff had the hump because parents were being abusive - because the school was open! One even threatened to go to the press... can you imagine the headline 'Snow-Joke! Schools continue to open in bad weather!'

Anyway point is whilst the decision makers need to grow a pair or two there are a lot of ordinary people out there that need to grow a pair or two as well because they are as guilty of bringing this country to standstill at the moment just by not making the effort in areas where (with due care and attention) they could do.

      Rant over...

We've had a few guys from India come to work with us in the last couple of years. Great entertainment watching them reverse park. Strange all their hire cars and permanent cars got scrapes in exactly the same spot...,

I believe HMs have to follow Stalinist diktat on this as much as they do on just about everything else. I know ours said he was determined he would not close if it snowed so I presume he has had to follow county decisions.

I recognise the parental abuse scenario that TJ has mentioned above and I'm beginning to think on most decisions concerning schools and school management that they been well and truly chopped off and roasted.

Kiddie hysteria seems to win and I absolutely see the bad behaviour game to get sent home thing. Certain manipulations are becoming endemic so it's harder to keep the lid on the jar. Parental off side attitudes are seriously on the increase for lots of issues. It gets bloody tedious at times.

One kid sneaks a GET ME OUT OF HERE! call home from a toilet. Classmates see this, start texting carers and parents start to arrive to collect kids.

Teacher tries to carry on teaching the remaining uncollected and has to deal with "It's not fair! Why are you teaching us when Shanysse has just been taken home by her Mum? No. We're not going to learn anything now. We want to go home".

It is actually like that at times.

My wife is a cancer specialist and she would never dream of taking the easy option to stay at home and not travel to her hospital. Police, ambulance and fire staff are the same. What the hell would it be like if they didn't turn in?

I'm really frustrated at being here at home and not doing my job. I didn't opt for this.

I quite agree my job is very similar as im a Prison Officer, people taking duvet days for the sheer hell of it has a massive impact on the regime of a prison.
Unhappy prisoners = Riot or inconcerted discipline as we like to call it lol. But it is a very stressful job so im not gonna knock the extra time off too much

We haven't had a flight since I arrived on the rig on the 25th Nov. Every day the pilots look out of the window in Aberdeen & say 'not today mate.' If we don't get a flight over the weekend, they may finally get organised & get a boat out here on Tues/Wed. This was all organised after the Volcano incident last spring so shouldn't be beyond the wit of man or Shell.

It's getting a little tiresome now for me. I work outside, so it's just a case of trying to keep feet and hands warm. The older I get, the more the cold seems to get right into the bones!!

I work on a golf course, and the snow means that we're not getting any revenue coming in at all, and knowing our finances aren't exactly brilliant anyway, this isn't going to help one bit.

Have had a second day off work from my school today and have:

                            Had a lie in
Smoked a couple of ripe ones at home alone
Wasted time posting shit on Facebook
Watched The Godfather 1 for the first time ever
Consumed a few doses of Havana Club 7 anos

I must admit I could take to this. And if the snow hasn't thawed by Monday morning, I imagine I will have to.
