not that far back. Liam only died this year, Ronny last, i cannot remember when Kieran passed, and luke has been gone 25 years in February i think, thank God for youtube at least i can still see them perform in the flesh, well almost. I am sure you have sen this, but here it is for anyone who has not heard of the late great Luke Kelly

Have you looked into booking directly?
Last time I was out there I organised the accommodation and transfer from Male with the resort and made my own arrangements for the flights.
The upside: saved a fortune and got a much better service (Upgrades etc).

Over the years I've tried a few of the usual suspects: Emirates via Dubai, Quatar via Doha and Sri Lanka via colombo.
Rarely gone direct as I usually take advantage of a few days stop-over.
However, there are are few more options these days: BA (spits) flies direct from Gatwick and both Thomson and Monarch offer direct charters, but both have IMHO questionable reputations regarding quality.
I'm a leg-room Nazi, so that's one of my most important considerations when choosing an airline.
Transfer method is usually dictated by the distance of the atol from Male (Not sure which one(s) you have in mind), love the seaplane transfers, but more recently have been picked up by either a Dhoni or by one of the resorts own speedboats.
I tend to keep an eye out for any resorts offering 'soft opening' deals (particularly after a refurb), as they are usually great value (and eager to impress).
Conde Nast magazine is a good source of info for that type of thing (as are the Sunday newspaper travel sections).
Yes, OK, I'll admit it, I'm a travel nerd.
Are you a diver by any chance?

How about a few days in Havana and then off to the beach in Varadero? Diving was more than reasonable on my recent trip. I'll grant you that the accommodation isn't up to 5* maldives standards but there are other attractions too...Comment
