I read with dismay some of the dissension going on in our wonderful forum.
May I point out to everyone one simple and indisputable fact: This is not usenet news; it is a moderated, private forum, created by Deano for our enjoyment, exchange of information, and entertainment.
It is not a democracy. We don't get to vote on the rules. Ultimately, there is one -- and only one -- person who decides what is appropriate here and that is Deano.
I have always found him amenable to suggestions on how to improve or modify the forum, but anyone who is unhappy with the restrictions is free to start his or her own.
I would also like to suggest that any future complaints be directed to Deano personally, via PM, rather than posted as dirty laundry for all to read. The only purpose of a critical post is to raise dissent and unrest and will not accomplish anything productive, so either do it behind closed doors, as it were, or get over it.
Over the years, I've participated on innumerable forums and have found UKCF to be -- by far -- the most informative, enjoyable, and diverse. I've made friends among the incredibly entertaining, intelligent, and creative (to say nothing of the phenomenally generous) members here from literally all over the world. I would hate to see the nature of this wonderful place evolve into a bitter stand-off over matters which may not please everyone, but nonetheless are not ours to decide.
Please, can we all return to the matter at hand? I refer, of course, to friendship, good will, and -- most of all -- cigars.
