Great stuff Simon. Keep us updated.

Good news! I can confirm that I did not send her a picture of my balls...

I'm not sure she'd be interested in Robus.. I mean person C...

I gather I'm the only person with little enough of a life to talk with her about Nelson for six hours...

And if you believe that you'll believe anything...

Let's put it this way (hypothetically of course):

Person A went to an all boys school, then joined the military, then left early (due to injury) and started a male-dominated degree. Hobbies include rugby and shooting stuff (again rather male dominated). As a result of this background, person A has exactly four female numbers out of about 200 in his phone (those four being, for example, his mother, sister, gran and one of his bosses at the company he works for a couple of weeks a year).

Person B is someone who person A was in the same room with once, or maybe twice. Person A is not even sure if he has ever said hello, in real life, to person B. After an odd period of exchanging pleasantries on some social media site, people A/B spend one night 'chatting' until 5am... After which, person B sends person A a message with her number, preceded with (again hypothetically) something along the lines of "Heyy, um, you don't have to obviously, but it was cool chatting to someone who didn't mock my geekyness Give me a text or something " (probably due to a hypothetically shared interest...)

Person A thinks he gets it, but is worried that he is going to make a tit of himself before there's anything to make a tit of himself about.
I'd say person A should be brave and risk making a tit of himself... feeling like a tit seems a good gamble for Person A against the other side of the coin which potentially could be 1) A good laugh 2) A little bit special 3) Absolute happiness for the rest of person A's life.

I won't mention D.... however Nothing Ventured etc!

And now for the question on everyone's mind:

              Is she fit?

Sorry, I couldn't resist just a little vulgarity Best of luck with the text, hope you get a positive response.

Just a word of warning from my own experience (vast as it is), by chatting for hours via social networking etc you probably have got the vast amount of the start up chit chat of a relationship out of the way so don't be surprised if you go from friends to hardcore adult nasty in the blink of an eye. Once a woman decides what she wants there is very little you can do to deny her lol. Bag up and stay safe. P.S. I think we all deserve pictures of person B for our sage advice so we can offer more tailored advice in the future lol.

A little added note... I've been with my main squeeze for 5 years now.... she's brill in every way and we met through a social network in much the same way as Person A and B.

I hope that it goes well for you. Be brave, as a previous poster said, dive in (though not straight away in that way!), and you'll be fine.

If you want some advice from a SOTL, I'm happy to help.

One tip - for a first meet it is often good to go to the cinema, etc. and then onto dinner/drink as it means that you will definitely have at least one thing to talk about.

You may even be supremely lucky and find another SOTL who likes watching rugby and shooting. (Sorry I'm already taken!)

Good luck - women secretly like men who make tits of themselves, it brings out our maternal side.

                      Thanks again all.

Good to hear that this sort of thing can actually work. I've never been a fan of socialising online/through texts, though it's probably a good thing for people with 'issues' (as I seemingly have). Then again, I've also thought that it can be a very good way to get to know people without any of the barriers that there can be in person.

PS. Is it possible to have too much in common? Was surprised that one of her favourite TV programmes is also one of mine. As far as I was aware, it had an audience of about four in this country - at least I've never met anyone who's watched it (apart from my mother, who I used to force to watch it, now she quite likes it).

Kinda intrigued as to what that program is!

JAG. (As seen on FX, and now CBS Action).

Now I'm getting rather paranoid that this thread will be discovered. There is definitely enough to identify me here... (Maybe I should remove her message from the first post?)

Common interests are only a problem when you have nothing but common interests in your lives, usually because one gets too clingy and looses their own identity such as Mrs B loves things because Mr A loves them etc.

I can't believe no one has asked so far but how does she feel about smoking cigars? It is innocent enough to chat about but leaves lots of room for innuendo plus who wouldn't love their other half to occasionally puff on their cigar just a little.

Jib, that post was a set-up for so much. "who wouldn't love their other half to occasionally puff on their cigar just a little". Is that what they call a single entandre?

                                Not exactly subtle, was it...

I have mentioned them (only in passing though), with reference to my tendency to build any trip to London around cigars, cigar shops and meeting up with BOTL.

I might leave the double (or single) entendres off for the time being though.
