  • Edinburgh

Flying up there for a few days' ME time alone next week.

I've found two cigar shops in central Edinburgh on Google.

Do they have lolling-about space on leather sofas like Davidoff and JJ Fox?

Is there a Scottish 10 Manchester Street in Edinburgh?

To be honest, I want to hang about smoking Havanas rather than climb to view the castle.

    D'you know what I mean?

Any insight offered will be gratefully received.

Also decent live music venues, clubs, reasonably priced restaurants and massage parlours.

    Many thanks.

CGars has two outlets in Embra, one at the West End of Rose Street and another in the Royal Mile. there's also The Pipe Shop at the bottom of Leith Walk. There's no smoking rooms as the law on smoking is more stringent in Scotland than England.

Hotel du Vin still has its bothy, I believe and there are various pubs with beer gardens, some heated, but don't ask me where....maybe an Embra resident can tell you.

Don't know about Manchester Street as never been there so don't have a clue. Probably best to ask at the cigar shops.

Lots of restaurants and I can recommend the Scotch Malt Whisky Society for something to eat. If you eat there, you can drink there. Loads of clubs and live music but best to ask someone younger than me!

Bloody smoking ban has killed every pub I like there too. Bailie in stockbrige one of the best

        Thanks men.

Oh dear. Looks like park bench cigar smoking then. Never mind. I'll google the Hotel du Vin. Thanks for these pointers. Appreciated.

Looking forward to meeting up with you Bry....should we turn this into a mini herf on the Sunday afternoon? I'm about an hour away up the road and would be driving so a boozy afternoon is out but I'm sure we could find a heated beer-garden somewhere...as long as it's not pissing with rain

          Who's up for a meet?

Ya ever notice ? Someone always has to piss on your parade?
Carry a sharp knife and if they try cut their pisser off.
I hope you have a nice spring like day

Up for that SBoy. I'll be jetting in from Kent International Airport FFS and will be at Edinburgh Airport circa 14:15 next Sunday. I cannot drink for bodily reasons but would be up for a civilised smoke somewhere if anyone happens to be around. Then I plan to go underground til the flight home on Wednesday.

I was in Edinburgh last week and stopped in two cigar shops, both on the Royal Mile (High Street). The Cigar Box and another one a little further down the hill owned by an American. I talked to the fellow American and asked him where I could smoke there and he said absolutely no place inside in Edinburgh, not even a cigar shop. Talk about taking away liberties. Anyway, our hotel, the Best Western Bruntsfield Hotel (http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwest...ertyCode=83406) which isn't far from downtown (less than 5 pound taxi ride) has a very nice pub with a heated patio for smoking. I went out there a couple of nights and the heaters keep you nice and toastie. Great place but I'm sure there are other places with heated smoking areas. Have fun, we did like Edinburgh quite a lot. Oh, the smoking area had big umbrellas so if it's raining you'll still be okay.

Robusto - I've emailed the Hotel du Vin to see if the cigar hut is heated/covered. The place itself is about as central as you can get....about 2 mins from the Royal Mile/High Street...looking good

I can tell you that when I was there in March, it was covered and heated. It has two open walls but is in a walled courtyard so there shouldn't be a problem with the notorious east wind whistling in. There is also service to the bothy. You don't even need to go into the bar to order. Gie the guy a tip though!
