3wks ago I travelled down from Aberdeen, to Warrington & collected this beast.
I had a bonus for seeing the Brent Charlie out, last Nov. Although, I didn't receive it until March. Very annoyed about that, when others received it in Nov's pay.
Anyway, its been burning a hole in my pocket since Oct & been looking for the car of my dreams, rather than waiting until my retirement in 12/25.
Main candidate was an Aston, specifically a DB9. Didn't really fancy the Vantage & all other models way too much. Although, I could have bought one for cash, worries of additional costs of parts & labour at an independent, could be ruinous & I don't have faith in long warranties, as most items can be dismissed as wear & tear on an older car. The real stumbling block was no garage & no where to store it. Professional storage with trickle charging £2,500 ,p.a, which I couldn't justify.
So I settled for the beast. An XK8 4.2 V8 6 speed 2004, in Ebony, with warm charcoal leather, 65,000miles. The garage had replaced the headliner, battery, full service, Inc replacement brake fluid. Kept it indoors, on trickle charge. Interior perfect. Has triple dials, with chrome rims. Earlier models are without the roses & later had GPS but so out dated no one seems to use it. A previous private sale car I looked at had beige leather (I really wanted black) & GPS. He said when he bought another, he'd go for the chrome dials. He also had modified stage 1&2 exhaust, which did sound amazing.
It's particularly nice to have the J gate back, which I had in my X Sovereign. I find it more engaging than the sport button.
Keeping the red XF as a fishing car!
