    Anybody built a tandoori oven?

  • #2
No. I do love a tandoori mixed grill though. One of the best things to order at the Indian restaurant.

No...but mainly cook it on the BBQ...and for the naan cook it on a pizza stone ...not the same as tandoor but similar

Never but I’d imagine it a bit of a painful thing to clean ashes after you’re done, depending on how deep you build it.

Probably better to use a Kamado grill (Big Green Egg) and get some metal skewers? That way you also have a super versatile BBQ as well.

Not sure how you’d do Naan in there but slapping the dough to the inside of a tandoor and cooking it is an art In itself so not for the weekend BBQer I guess.

Googled “Big Green Egg Tandoor” and found this gizmo. Some other blog posts look promising too.

BGE bit to ££££ for an occasional barbecuer! Looks like I can build a tandoori oven out of three flower pots!

Thanks. Proper one there - no dustbins or flower pots!

I built a wood fired oven, i'd like to add a tandoor as well they look pretty simple to make and should be fun to use.

From what I've seen, it makes doing kebabs easier than on a BBQ grill as they get heated all round. Probably true of other things too as you can hang things in the oven. Definitely worth trying I think.

I use this with either a battery powered motor (picured) or you can get mains powered motors.
