I test drove the 370z at launch. It is a "better" car than the 350z. It is built better, is faster and handles "better" but it is WAY WAY less fun. The sexy V6 noise is utterly toned down and the handing is too safe, no fun. Technically better but so much less adrenalin.

Like Eyesack, I am currently driving the ultimate in hairdresser cars - the MX-5!! Previously I had a Pontiac Trans Am which had the superb 5.7 V8 in it which I had to fettle with to get more power!!

Before that was a Mitsubishi Evo 6 which again was fettled with and was just plain mental - unbelievable machine. Shame I went a bit too far and melted one of the pistons - oops, still it makes a great (if expensive) ashtray.......

Also had the requisite hot hatches in my youth, the Peugeot 106 Rallye being a particular favourite.

However, the government have decided that driving anything with any decent power should cost you half your wages in tax, so the little MX5 will do me just fine - really fun car to drive, great handling and cheap

I hear that bud, it was 400 a year to tax mine, then it was costing me 100 a week in fuel, group 20 insurance that even at 32 at the time cost me 1700. I worked it out that the last year I had it cost me 11000 in running costs ( with the clutch going)

Ouch Lee! I'm not surprised you got rid.
I bet it was still a wrench!

I really cant stand the fact that those fat cat wankers, sitting there can actually ruin anything ! I can drive, I have been since I was about 15 and im now 18, cant stand the thought that if I get a license its gna skin me about 2000 for the first year on insurance for a shitty little 1.nothing.

The government should be turning round to these companies and saying, hold on a second, take your fist out the young folks arse for 10 minutes eh ?

Have you thought about getting an older car and insuring it on a classic policy? - it could save you a lot of money. You're clearly handy with the spanners, so any problems you can sort yourself, and build up your no claims for a year or two to bring down your insurance costs. This also has the bonus of you driving around in something a little different, rather than just a bog standard Eurobox bland car.

You cant get a classic policy now until your 25, my brother had been trying since he was 17 (22 now) and everyone he has asked have said its for 25 and over

Fair enough then - didn't know they'd put an age limit on it now. I suppose insurance companies know if they close this avenue then young drivers will be forced to pay stupid premiums.

Glad I'm getting close to 40 and never had to claim really - I suppose there are some benefits to getting old and grey......

The whole insurance business pisses me off. Im 34, driving for 17 years with a full and always has been clean license, full no claims bonus etc etc.

In february a guy ran into the back of my car, i hit the steering wheel with my head and started vomiting. He got out of his car, walked over to mine, said, "arr your cars alright" then drove off. I managed to photograph his reg plate as he did. I went to the hospital and had treatment for whiplash, head injury and shoulder injury. Im still in pain to this day. I reported him to the police (who are prosecuting him as he wont answer letters from them) and informed the insurance company.

Because i didnt get his name and address, they have taken away my no claims and put an at fault accident on my policy. My premium has gone from ?480 to ?1400 since this happened. No matter what i say to them they wont reinstate my no claims until its all sorted. When i asked when this would be, an agent said we dont tend to go after people who dont answer letters. Bloody great!!!

                                That's just absurd

Clearly it's easier for them to bump up your premium than to actually do anything more than sending a letter to the responsible party. Wonderful
