I believe it was Oscar Wilde who once said

Target audience? I don't fit into the target audience for TV at all.... I still watch and enjoy a lot of it.

I think in future I will watch a program and make up my mind rather than worry that I may be tarred with the same brush as the "target audience".... after all nobody likes a snob!

Do hope that wasn't aimed at me.

I used the phrase "target audience" because of the original poster saying "this clearly isn't aimed at you as a target market"

The point I was trying to make was that I don't believe, I easily fall into a target audience either, love a lot of low brow TV as well as the more challenging stuff.

Don't think I've ever been called a snob!

It's only a TV show, if anyone has an opinion regarding it, that's wonderful.

All these mentions of chavs and snobs is surely a little unnecessary, unless we're discussing Kerry Katona and Brian Sewell respectively, then fire away you're spot on.

I too hope it wasn't actually, as I said I do actually agree with you on many of the points you made.

My only feelings to this are that the OP of the thread clearly stated his view and that in doing so classed all people who do find this funny as beneath himself, and as for someone calling everyone who enjoyed this a chav thats quite honestly nothing but offensive and fail to see how it can be take another way.

I'm all up for the banter but others may not be, everyone has there own tastes and opinions, but the whole thread started with a post bound to offend some.

There appears to be no opinion stated in the first post. Perhaps you are too quick to take offence!

I'm not offended atall, being called a Chav was the offensive part.

However "Yet another attempt to glamorise ignorance?"
how that does that not clearly show an opinion?

Anyway, I've honestly had enough of this particular thread now. To me it seems clear what the intent of the program was, but i guess some people either don't get it or don't enjoy it which is fair enough however to publicly post your opinion on it seems like a waste and a subject that should be kept to the likes of facebook, however once again just my opinion.

In which case I don't know why I'm answering.
It was phrased as a question. Celsis appeared to be saying that it would appeal to those who know Karl Pilkington OR were chavs.

[EDIT] Phrased as a question to promote mature discussion, hence the word 'Discuss'. The trailers promote him as a man somewhat ignorant of foreign culture. An Idiot Abroad in fact... I could understand why that might appeal to those who don't know him but see themselves in him in the trailer. Perhaps it's actually an attempt to trick bigots (NOT THOSE WHO KNOW KARL PILKINGTON BEFORE YOU SHIT YOUR PANTS AGAIN) into watching the show and attempt to educate them out of their racist ways through gentle humour?

I myself adore all things Gervais, Merchant and Pilkie....XFM, podcast, Guides to...etc, etc

Karl's a decent guy who appears to be an uneducated boor but I reckon there's more to him than the persona we see on-screen. He's no fool!!!
