Do You Ever Re-Light?

I think it used to be more common than it is now to re-light a cigar over and over again throughout the course of a day. I'm not talking about re-lighting because it went out while you were smoking it.

Are you the type of person who starts a big cigar and puts it out to save for later?

If it's been out long enough for the stick to cool down, it's time to chuck it. To me they seem to taste horrible if left to cool too long. If it's only been out a few minutes, relight and enjoy. I've never smoked half a cigar and saved the rest for later.

I agree with Rufus. I've never put a cigar out to finish it later. Once it cools, it's done.

When I was younger, maybe 16, a friend and I bought what I remember to be some kind of Bolivar tubo from a newsagent. Neither of us really knew what we were doing, I think we cut the end with a knife or some scissors and smoked about half of it between us. We didn't much like it at the time so we let it go out and put it back int the tube.

I tried a few times in subsequent weeks (probably months, actually) to take it from the tube and smoke the rest but the smell was so filthy that I could never bring myself to do it.

It served as a prop along with my brother's deactivated Tommy gun for doing Al Capone impersonations before I eventually chucked it.

I think memories of that smell will prevent me from ever wanting to "save" half a cigar for later.

On several occasions, I have smoked a cigar in my car for 50 minutes on the way to playing a gig. I've re-lit it and smoked it for another hour on the way home.

The taste on re-light is unpleasant so I don't advocate it, but that bitterness does go away after five minutes' work.

This is why I have smoked Villigers up to now as they fill a gap and a desire, but the taste of those after several weeks on the Havanas is dreadful and throat-killing.

I have bought packets of twiglet-like Montecristos before now, but they dry up very quickly.

I have got to try some short Havana smokes as a priority. I'll ask the good guys in JJ Fox to advise me over half term.
