  • Cool ideas for kids future birthday/weddings

    Hi guys

Two of my kids birthdays are in May and it got me thinking.. have any of you done anything which was relevant when your kids were born, and kept them for a significant future date ie 21st birthday or wedding day?

I’m thinking like a whisky or wine bottled when they were born, cigars produced that year, wristwatch made that year etc which you crack open and enjoy with them on the significant day.

    Thoughts?

Buy a box of Cohibas now, when they are 21 they can sell them and buy a house

I have several boxes of cigars with my sons birthday (month and year) the prized box being some now discontinued QdO Imperiales. Plan was to smoke one each year on his birthday and share one on his 18th but with today’s prices he’s going to have to buy his own

I prefer Shaun’s idea, buy Cohiba’s and exchange for a house or two.

I feel like I read a thread on here about a gentleman that bought a 15 year old aged whiskey on each of his son's birthdays. He gave him a collection of 21 bottles (I believe) on his 21st birthday and the collection was worth a fair bit.

For sentimental value I would say record a 5-10 minute video on or around his birthday each year... even one describing your excitement at his birth and all the things you hope you'll get to do together. Edit them together and give them to him on that special occasion. I think we'd all love an hour or two long video of our parent(s) reminiscing of all the great memories you shared each year and providing some advice along the way. Parents are not here forever and this would be something most people would cherish dearly and it only costs 5-10 minutes each year and a little editing the day before that special occasion 😉👍🏻 Both of your kids will cherish these videos for their entire life.

Very very wise words. Thank you for this, it’s the perfect gift that’s completely irreplaceable

Take a portrait photo of everyone in the family every day. They'll be annoyed with you but after a few years you'll have some wonderful animations!

This is a really interesting thing, I’ve also been thinking the same about my daughter (who is 1 in July)

I am making a Time Capsule for her, so far it includes:
Royal mint pack of 2021 coins
Pack of 1st class stamps (with price written on the inside for records)
A gold sovereign (hopefully it’ll be worth a lot more when she’s 18)
Letters from family (still haven’t written mine, but will in a few weeks)
I’ll include one of her toys
                      some printed out pictures
I was also going to do a video edit of her first year with the thousands of videos and pictures we’ve taken of her and put it on a little memory stick.

Funnily enough I couldn’t for the life of me find a nice box that is lockable… until I thought about a Humidor! A little investment for me too 😎

Otherwise I was considering getting a 50 cab of Lusi (but just cannot find anywhere) to smoke one a year (probably until I die, I don’t think I’m making it past 85 😂)
So ISO if anyone has one that they want to move for a fair price!

I bought a load of boxes of the birth year and month....hope to sell them in the far distance future but also have several I'll smoke every 5 years or so.

I was looking to buy some whisky to drink when they turn 21...still haven't bought anything.

I looked at a whisky cask...but that was costing around 10 - 15k when matured. But only 2 initial buy in...just couldn't justify it back then.

Similar to SHAMZ84 I bought some scotch whisky casks for my 2 kids. My kids are young, the youngest hasn't even started school yet so hoping these will be worth something decent by the time they are old enough to inherit them. Whisky casks tend to increase in value around 8%-12% per year.
