  • First Record.

    Remember vinyl?
What was the first record you ever bought and how much did you pay?
Whats the most expensive record you've bought and how much?

First single was 'I wanna hold your hand' Beatles-1/6d-ish
    LP was Abbey Road-Beatles 19/6-ish.
I bought 'All things must pass'. George Harrisons triple album in 1971.
Cost over ?4. A lot of brass in those days.

Technically, Age 7 "The Wombles" LP (Please tell me that doesn't count!)

First Single - Watching the Detectives - Elvis Costello
First Album - Replicas - Tubeway army

Most Expensive - Signed Orange RCA Label - David Bowie - Diamond Dogs
Present to self on 30th birthday, embarrassed to say how much, I was younger and flush with cash at the time.

Stevieboy, do you still go to gigs, Numans shows are incredible.
Gave up on him late 80's, got dragged back by a friend in 2001.
Haven't missed a UK gig since!

I have an older sister who started to buy all the Beatles and Stones singles in 1965-1966?

The first single that I bought with MY pocket money: maybe "I am a man" by Chicago Transit Authority, for about 5 Francs?

        First album:
maybe The Who "Live at Leeds"? or "Shhhh" by Ten Years After?

Ah! jeunesse ? l?homme ne la poss?de qu?un temps et le reste du temps la rappelle.

The first "grown up record" I was bought was a Shakin Stevens and The Sunsets Album. The first Album I bought myself was Queen Greatest Hits at about the age of 9.

I remember my dad showing me how to clean a record and lower the needle on his record player. Before I bought the Queen album I used to listen to Holst's Planets, Rossini's William Tell, Tchaikovsky's 1812, Tubular Bells and oodles of James Last.... all from my dad's limited collection. He had a lot of reel to reel tapes too, but it was on a shelf too high up!

My very first record purchase was Black Betty by Ram Jam in 1977. I still love hearing that song. Next was Piano Man by Bill Joel.

I never bought too many as I had an older sister and sneaking them out of her room was easy enough.

                    Cheers,
                    DB Out!

First vinyl I was listening to (from about 6 when I could reach the record player): Abbey Road, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Dark Side of the Moon, Mrs Robinson, Are you Experenced, Blue, Parliament, Night Flight to Venus and many more (funny how those early albums have such a profound influence on your future taste in music).

Most of them are now on mini-monkeys ipod in his room (don't see why he has to listen to nursery rhymes?)

First vinyl I bought - The 12" of White Lines by Grandmaster and Melle Mel. (even though we all thought it was Grandmaster Flash at the time).
