  • We have a deal....

A deal has been landed! Denmark says goodbye to our UK brothers, but hello to a continued free flow of postal cigars between us 👍👍

I knew these 2 would find a deal in order to secure cigars travel. Lol

Stock market however reacted only slightly

It's interesting but too soon the details. Whatever they are, it will be agreed, all parties are so desperate to avoid a no deal. I was actually expecting to crash out but I guess that has been avoided, for better or worse. I look fwd to a time when 90% of the news & conversations don@t revolve around Brexit or Covid, hopefully bu NY 2022.

All depends on the deal. If it's deemed largely ok for the UK then the news will die away, if there are bad bits it will be moaned about for decades.
However Sturgeon will start banging the independence drum again now and all it will take is a Labour Government and she'll get another vote.
Politics and the ambitions of politicians will not stop until it ends up in the ultimate conclusion. Then it'll be too late for people to realise it's better to get along and work together than bicker about petty political hobby horses.

So reading in to it, EU or outside of EU imports are now treated to the same rules as far as we’re concerned aren’t they? So if one of the European members was to post it would be the same as them being outside of the EU.

Also 50 cigars max all countries now to bring back on holiday confirmed now?

Pretty hazy at the moment, but as I understand it the deal is that goods (but not services) can flow freely between the EU and the UK. Meaning parcels from EU country to UK and the opposite will be exempt of duties. What this will mean to the level of customs controls is hard to say.

I can add that I just sent 2 packages to the uk over the last few days and they are no longer treated as intra-EU.

As from now, almost the same rules apply as sending to the us, content info, value, mail address needed, ...

Lets hope all turns out well

                    From Post Office website
"From 29 December 2020, you will need to complete customs forms for goods sent to countries outside of the UK, this includes EU countries, apart from sending items from Northern Ireland"

For sending from UK to anywhere outside UK you will in all instances have to complete either a C22 customs declaration (value of goods up to £270) or a C23 customs declaration (goods valued over £270)

They are saying that but then the detail seems to imply the opposite, we now need full customs declarations both ways as far as I can tell there is no difference for us between EU and non EU now. (There’s also duty free available at the airports now which is new).

The free flow of goods seems to apply to business, there’s new checks and paperwork to get used to but that should be all for most things.

Importing ourselves however looks to be getting more expensive, not sure of the process back your way. Some of these charges I think were always meant to be there just never really seemed to happen like charging VAT.

“For items under £135 (with the exception of gifts), VAT will be collected directly when they buy the goods online. For goods with a value over £135 (and gifts over £39), Royal Mail may collect the VAT and customs duties from the customer prior to delivery. These charges are applied on behalf of HM Revenue & Customs.”

Yes I’ve seen all these, it’s the same from Denmark, but I’m not sure it’s not there because they did anticipate a hard exit with no deal and just didn’t have time to update?
Well, time will tell I guess.

I have a sneaky suspicion that they’ll get clobbered for import duty and tax-
Checking on a parcel- left EU on the 24th, still no update further than that.
I’m my experience with this- no news is NOT good news- Customs can take a week to process and send out an invoice prior to online updates & or delivery. Fingers crossed.
