    Good innit!

Now stop what you're doing and buy an alum block!

okay haven't used any of the Truefitt and Hill selection yet but my alum block arrived today.

    Oh my god!

If anyone wet shaves be it DE, Mach 3 or whatever it is probably the best product i have ever used to eliminate razor rash. After shaving and rinsing for the last time of my usual regime i simply wet my face and rubbed the block over it like a bar of soap. Then i rinsed my face and towel dried as usual. It makes you face feel so much smoother and cool compared to the hot iching feeling that you can sometimes get after shaving.

Alum blocks come with jibjob's recommendation of the week, try it and you wont be disappointed.

      Told you!

Now can someone with a scientific bent explain how Alum blocks bloody work! It also works on skin irritations/spots/blemishes, and may cure herpes (made the last one up)

BTW, I sent my '61 (thought it was '64) Gillette Fatboy off to get replated and refurbished.
Found a chap through the shavingroom forum who comes highly recommended, and does the whole thing for ?15 + P&P!

Next recommendation is slightly more to your own personal taste though.

Looks like a tramps tipple, comes in a plastic bottle with a label that looks like it was designed by Stevie Wonder.

Wore it today (sparingly, strong, smells like an old barber shop, but in a good way) when picking up the kids from school.

4 separate women, 3 of the them exceptionally milfy, said 'You smell gorgeous'!!!

Wife came home this evening and said the same.

This stuffs ?10.00 a bottle!!! I've got bottles of cologne that cost 7 or 8 times that. (Creed Irish Tweed et al)

This stuff works like Hai Karate used to in those 70's TV ad's.
Again recommended by someone on the Badger & Blade forum.

      Yours stinkily

      David R

P.S Still enjoying the Futur jibjob? What blades have you tried?

Pssst, jibjob, do you think they'll figure out we're major shareholders in Alum block incorporated?

Loving the Futur, still on the original merkur blade on setting number two. Going to try a feather blade (heard they are the sharpest thing around) next then start cranking up the setting till i find the perfect combination (still playing it safe). I have a good number of merkur and feather blades and recon i should get a week out of each blade. Even days i'm shaving with the no. 2 setting towards me, odd days the no. 5 setting towards me, was going to put a mark on the razor head so i don't end up using one side all week lol but then realised the settings are perfect for telling the sides from each other.

Also got a shaving brush stand that doesn't fit my badger brush doh!, however a sticky magnet later and it sits happily under the shelf to dry properly.

Made from Potash Alum and used since Egyptian times its salty residue constricts blood vessels and tightens pores

Nah, although we might have to keep it quiet about the Truefitt and Hill commissions we are getting.

Reading all this is getting me curious.
I only shave about once a week but when I do, its a with the grain then against the grain wet shave cos its gotta be right.
Think I might have to start looking into Fatboys and Alum blocks since all you smooth skinned talkers are banging on about them so much.
We will have to see if the wife notices a difference, that'll be the real test, if she invites me close for cuddle I'll buy you all a drink for the sound advice.
Wish me luck fella's I might be on a promise after all this !!!

Go on give it a go Corto, I can say hand on heart you'll never regret it.

Best way to convert the missus is also the cost.

Show her the cost difference between 10 x Mach 3 (yuk) ?12.00 +
                        and 10 Feather blades ?3.00 +

I'd heartily recommend the Merkur Futur, JibJob's got one, so do I.
It's an excellent place to start due to it's adjustablity and weight.
(Fat Boy is romantically lovely, technically brilliant, but you'll need to part with some serious money or be very lucky to get a good one cheap)

The sampler pack from Truefitt contains virtually every thing you need to get started, but buy an alum block for ?7, it makes a world of difference.

Sounds like bullshit, but no one is paying me to say this, I actually look forward to my bi-daily shave (used to be every day with the Mach 3) and the results are incomparable.

Wife loves my smooth non irritated skin, and is a convert to the whiff of Bay Rum!

If I can help with any info, feel free to PM me.

2 weeks growth? When i was deployed i ended up growing a 3-4 month beard on the submarine, i didn't cut it apart from the mustache, well i nibbled it actually. Btw I'm ginger as well lol. Mrs didn't like it so it had to go. Since i got out of the Navy I've been shaving once a week or so in rebelling having to shave every day, even at weekends. I used to use an electric razor or convenience and was never happy with how close it got, also mach 3 razors never did an excellent job either. I'm just starting out with the DE razors but I'm actually looking forward to shaving everyday, double checking with the Mrs that she wont want to kick me out of the bathroom while i get my routine on. Plus she has even commented on how smooth it feels and is actually checking just how smooth a shave i am getting as i experiment with my routine slightly each day. I could probably get away without shaving each day but I'm like a kid with a new toy at the moment.

                                Simply explain that

                                a) you will look better shaved that will benefit her
                                b) you will be more chilled out and relaxed from smoking cigars that will benefit her
                                c) she will have double the choice for presents to buy you for christmas and birthdays
                                d) you can buy her things that she likes if she buys you cigar and shaving things you like
                                e) you now have more things to discuss

seems to be a win win situation, or at least that is how i have sold my Mrs on the subject lol
