  • Xikar cutter

Apologies. I cannot find a previous thread on preferred cigar cutters, so I need to start this from scratch.

Does anyone use a Xikar cutter like this?

I seem to remember some members swear by this make.

(I won't be buying one that looks kitsch and garish like this, by the way).

I have an Xikar cutter like the one in your pic. Although mine in a lesser model then the one in the pic, the bades are the same (I believe). The one in your pic has a nice, solid, hefty feel and good action when you snap the blades open, which lock shut when you cut.

Having said that, I am a punch man myself.

Nothing like a clean, round punch made with a well shapened punch.

    BTW Robusto, nice hat.

TJ - I'm thinking of getting one of these cutters. Thanks for your input.

I love wearing Stetsons, and when I pair a hat with a heavyweight Cuban cigar I always hit a high.

I'm more of an Indiana Jones hat man myself.

I think you will be happy with the Xikar.

Bryan, they look great and whacky.I have scissors and Quite a few pairs as it seems to be the only thing my relatives know what to get me lol, the best ones are the three bladed. Much better cut and looks great on the side by the Humidor!
Chill out and enjoy a good cuban when you can

I've done a bit of hunting around the internet on this issue as my El Cheapo single-blade cutter seems to be getting blunter and blunter every time I use it.

The most commonly touted alternative to the Xikar is the Palio cutter. The concensus seems to be that the Palio cuts slightly better, but the Xikar is a nicer object to own and use.

I think I'll be getting a Xikar once my single bladed job conks-out.

Lighters are a different issue, though. Seems almost impossible to find something simple looking, high quality and not ridiculously expensive. I think I'll stick to matches for the time being.

Same here Olls, nothing wrong with using matches, especially with the price of some of the lighters that are around!!

Robusto - re: that ebay cutter, I don't think I've ever seen cigar cutter quite like that.... ever!

I have a drawer full of cutters I don't use after having purchased:

Feels great. Looks great. Cuts EVERY cigar perfectly. Holds the cut tip for you until you can dispose of it properly. Comes with a LIFETIME guarantee. Life is good.

Rok - Nice of you to provide a link. Although I prefer a punch, I've seen these cutters before and was courious about whether they worked. Based on your post, I may buy one and add it to my giant collection of double, single, and V-cut cutters.

                    Afternoon folks,

Normally I get a fresh cutter from my cigar retailer after buying a fresh batch of cigars. I would be just using the cigar cutters that Hunters and Frankau stamp their logo on. Hence different size of cutter to compliment the ring gauge of the cigar and the tip of course.

I have the XiKar cutter and multiple cutters that I don't use either. This Cuban Crafters cutter that rokkitsci posted is the perfect cigar cutter. Every person I have introduced to this cutter, whether friend or stranger, is blown away by this cutter. No joke, I can't tell you how many people at the cigar lounge say that they have never used a better cutter after borrowing mine. I would scrap the xikar and go with the Cuban Crafters.

                          Alex

I'm just bunging in an eBay search for Cuban Crafters to see what crops up.

                            Rok. Larry.

Is this the one you both raved about?
I can't get your link to open, Rok.

TJ - I've never got on with a punch cutter.
SC - How many cutters have you got, then? lol

Cutters add to the BAD in me, I think.
Scissors (I have some) make me feel bizarre!

                              I've bought that very one.
Another for the collection - but I hope this will be fine.
