    Another overused term: Tragedy.

Not only is it overused, for everything bad is somehow tragic, it is used in a technically false way: the idea that the 'tragic' event stems from a fatal flaw in the character/actor is completely gone.

      Oh good one, utterly agree.
"In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock!"

Though it is mostly empty. I am, however, often spoiled by my country's concept of eloquence:

I actually had to look away halfway through as I just felt so embarrassed for her. How did she do?

She abruptly decided that she would have no more debates. One wonders why.... However, the election isn't until November, and she's the only Republican in a conservative state. As well, she signed into law the controversial though locally popular immigration law that more or less allows police to ask anyone for immigration papers, which in that state means Latinos. All told, she has a pretty good chance.

"At the end of the day...."
"To be perfectly honest with you...."
                  "....going forward."
                  "There's your *thing* for yourself."

Gotta agree about synergy and value-added.

This is an interesting thread for someone whose English isn't the native language and is still trying to learn?
