So I don't usually share a lot of personal stuff on this forum but I'm starting to enjoy your company and I've had a few beers and one of thedame007 's cigars, so here goes.

Wife of 10 years, girlfriend of 5 (same person, to be clear) have decided to call an end to our excellent stint together. We've had a blast but time to move on. Our first application for divorce was declined by the powers because they said it wasn't specific enough. So another £96 later and a load of lies about how I spend all our money on motorbikes and cigars(!) and now hopefully we'll be on our merry way. What an institution - you can get married for a fiver in Vegas by an Elvis impersonator, but you have to be reeeeal specific about why you wanna split. Aaanyway, that's happening, all good.

I'm therefore moving house - viewed some places today.

And I'm moving job - I had an offer before covid that's on hold, but literally just now got offered a decent redundancy payment (which is tax free*?!) so I'll take that.

And I need a new car - mine is slowly dying. So, based on the above I'm thinking used drop top M4. The mustang I test drove the other day was pony (pun intended).

That's about it for me - business as usual otherwise 😂 I'm considering effing off to Thailand for a few years but should probs buy a house and at least rent it out.

Anyone else got anything personal they fancy sharing?!

*Any accountants care to confirm this?

Redundancy, well first 30k£ is tax free for sure then they get their hooks in. I'm no accountant

Sorry to hear your marriage is fallen apart, but life goes on. Mine disinterested after 25 years.

I also looked at M4 but opted for the 440i Gran Coupé. Not much performance difference but it has a boot you can get more in than a vanity case. I preferred the 6 soft top but was no longer available new.

Whatever you choose to do I wish you all the best and it does get better on the other side.

Definitely major changes but you’re certainly putting a positive on them!

Redundancy payments are indeed tax free up to 30k (you’re just taxed as normal on your notice period pay and the redundancy pay itself is tax free)

I’d personally look to lease a car otherwise that redundancy money will soon be gone. Horses for courses though.

Yeah 2 years living apart (needs proof), adultery, or unreasonable behaviour on one party only. FYI to anyone doing it - save yourself a possible £96 and just put adultery - it doesn't matter! Courts don't care, financial settlement aren't affected.

An M4 on lease would be like £900 a month 😂

2nd hand on pcp purchase is what I would do - more like £500. And you can sell it at any time, unlike a lease where you're locked in.

I do have a job offer I'm waiting to be taken off ice as soon as the company's hiring freeze is lifted so I should be okay.
