i usually leave the band on, and remove it just before the ask reaches the band. mostly because i dont want any moisture from my finger, be it natural or from my glass or something, to go on the wrapper and destroy any potential of nubbing it.
i also find that if the band is a bit sticky, warming the wrapper underneath makes it eaiser to remove and lessens the chance of tearing the wrapper.

What a load of codswallop...in public or in private it's your cigar so do with it what you want..if you worry about what other people think, you wouldn't be smoking a cigar in the first place..
Those that think your pretentious can F%$K off & wouldn't look at the band anyway..just the naffing great brown thing in your gob!
As for ruining a cigar with a stuck band that's just downright stupidity & to ruin it beyond it being smokeable put's you in the total idiot bracket & suggests you shouldn't go out without your carer...
      Rant over....

Being in the states and speaking English I don't know what the meaning of "Bounder" is. Google translate didn't work. I might have wanted to know before I stated what I do with the band.
I'm sure that nobody considers you a bounder, Rick. In any event, you and I deal with the band in exactly the same way - off before cutting. And we can't both be bounders - can we ?

No, to be a Cad you have to smoke silver tube RyJ Churchills which you obtain from your cigar merchant 'On Account' and you must drive a vintage Jag .... it's almost obligatory that you have a rich aunt who provides you with an allowance, that you've been quietly Cashiered from a famous regiment, and that you have a wallet that you always forget to have about you.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

it seems pretty straight forward to me, if the band is stuck it stays on if its not it comes of,f it makes no difference to the cigar that you have bought for your own pleasure not anyone else's

I think that I've already said that my preference is for the Cohiba range and what I have found is that the bands - certainly on the Robusto, Siglo IV and Esplendido - slide off the cigar with ease. I have always interpreted that as even rolling as the band would slide either towards the cap or the tip. I can't recall ever having a glue residue on any of these cigars although I do acknowledge that with others that might well be the case and the penknife is needed.

This phrase is worth noting precisely because it does not belong in this dictionary: it makes sense in a moral universe that has utterly vanished. The last "cad and bounder" died, perhaps, about 1947 (see London Daily Telegraph obituaries for further evidence). Although they are appropriately linked, the precise meanings differ. A "cad" is one who does harm to a woman's honor or sense of self-worth as, for example, by taking her for a garden walk when he has no intention of marrying her. A "bounder" is a presumptious upstart, seemingly ignorant of, but perhaps merely indifferent to, fundamental norms of propriety.

HEY!!! I guess thanks to DavidD but SmokeyDave, that's one heck of a way to leave someone hanging. I think I'd rather be a bounder.

                        You guys are hilarious.
