Is anyone else not able to get to work? I normally wouldnt mind but Ive just had a week off work, I called in and got told I had to take it as holiday, does anyone know if companies can do that? its not like i made a choice to stay off work... grrrrrrrrr

I struggled in this morning, which was a bit foolish in retrospect ( nearly slewed off the road at one point ) but now the weather seems to have eased off slightly, getting stuck here is my biggest worry - sleeping in a portacabin is not something I want to add to my life experiences.

Down here in SE Kent - at work in Ramsgate - the snow is thin and pathetic. They normally close schools as soon as someone picks a flower, so I'm disappointed to be here and not homeward bound.

The kids, needless to say, are high as bloody kites.

It's in the air here in Cardiff but it's not settling. VERY cold though. I've just done a H&S inspection of a workshop for my course and even though we were indoors I couldn't feel my hands by the end of it. Most hazardous!

I'll ask my boss tomorrow about the legality of 'forcing' you to come into work or take it as holiday, if you like. I'm likely to get a fairly impartial answer from him.

Yeah. That "forcing" holiday thing seems very dodgy, Pant.

I hope it's a blockbuster for you after that journey.

And - YES - the trauma is huge about snow here. In relative terms, we have no snow here!

I'm just sulking cos they didn't shut my school!

Bryan - living in Kent I would have thought the snow would have hit you worse! Here in N. Essex we've had about 4 inches of the stuff, and my school has been shut all day and (if rumours are to be believed) will be shut tomorrow as well!

well for me at least Id rather be at work I allready have a weeks worth of work backed up waiting for me and now another days worth!, i work in Central London and live on the outskirts and no trains. I think what makes this worse and maybe why my employer has the arse over it all is when this happens no one turns in, and I mean no one, he told me he was the only one in today which is a joke when 50% of the people you work with could walk to work.

Yep - and yes I know, the amount of snow we've had doesn't warrant it. It's at times like these I love such phrases as "health and safety concerns"!
