Never tried pods before either. Started off with a cafetiere, then bought an expresso machine by Dualit, but after 13 months it broke down... So back to my usual cafetiere. It isn't bad but like what Cpt Duff stated, never will be as strong and as pure as a proper coffee maker.
I do prefer grinding my own beans (using my electric grinder of course!), much like using matches to light my sticks with. Just something naturally satisfying about it.
