Interesting Churchill story, but no evidence it ever happened, as this version - http://www.independent.co.uk/news/sc...r-2043641.html - makes clear the allegation of a Churchill cover up was made by a relative of a Churchill aide who wrote to the MOD years after the event after allegedly hearing about the story from the aide (who I think was conveniently dead by that time, as I think was Churchill).
