cow in my office has just smashed my cafetiere and is refusing to replace it, am I alone in the school of thought you break something you offer to get a new one? not just laugh and say " its one of those things get over it"

Sorry to hear of what happened. Maybe it was an immediate defensive reflex on her behalf? Perhaps talking to the person to find out what actually happened from her perspective, and then explain it from yours?

yeah I know where your coming from but not in this case, what happened according to her was " I got mad and chucked it" , I think the reason I'm so annoyed is I keep buying the bloody things and the last three have gone missing in the space of 6 months, this is the first time someone has claimed responsibility though!

Wtf is going on with that!? Make the bit** replace it! If that would have happened to me I would have smashed her over her dumb head with the remainders and still make her pay for it.

Agreed ..... it's the only 'right' thing to do.
If you want to, you can.

Actually you might have a point! There is always karma. You could have your next one locked away in your office or cabinet at work when not in use. I take it no security cameras in the office kitchen then. But seriously I do feel for you and hope you get it sorted.

Of course she should replace it. Did your boss know it was yours?

If it was me I would make a point of telling my boss that it was my personal property and she should replace it or pay for it. Also pointing out that she should not be throwing things about the office which is dangerous to others from a H&S point of view. Plus that it was a deliberate act and not an accident.

If that failed then I am afriad I would go out of my way to get back at her at every opportunity I could. Stooping down to her level maybe, but unfortunately taking the moral high ground does not work with some people. Some people have no guilt.

Coffee is like a second blood to me--if that happened to me, I'd put the hex on mighty heavy like.

Maybe you could get one of these: http://www.google.com/products/catal...CEUQ8wIwBzgA#p

I use it often, and it's more or less unbreakable. But as someone else suggested, lock it up, and maybe set the safe with poison gas if someone gets the combination wrong.

So what she means is... if you walked up to her car and was mad at her and slashed her tyres, there wouldnt be an expectation to pay for them, because.. 'its just one of those things so get over it'??

Or would you say that a deliberate act of criminal damage against your property contravenes a criminal offence? and tell her pay up or call the police??

Or... Naaa she should pay, buy another and give her the bill.

It sucks to work in a place that has no respect for personal property and weak management that wont confront people and actually do their job and perhaps upsetting delicate people. It isn't right but it is what happens in this nanny state. I had loads of sweets stolen from me while onboard, again a trivial issue which no one wants to sort out. I simply did some unsanitary things to the said boiled sweets and left a note at the bottom of the jar explaining not to eat them and what i had done. Funny old thing after that jar went missing the theft stopped lol. I know you shouldn't sink to their level like smashing their property but it is the only thing they understand sometimes.

                          Rant over.

It's a piss take, work environments are funny places.

Years ago I worked in a place with a shared fridge. I used to have a jar of pickled onions that I enjoyed from time to time. Now I consider myself a generous chap and will give anyone pretty much anything ...if they ask.

I noticed that they would gradually get eaten by 'others' so I put a polite note on them saying something like 'please respect others food etc...'

....needless to say they still got eaten! A few weeks later once they had been completely eaten by the unknown person I sent round an email competition asking people which three of my bodily fluids I had put in the jar two weeks ago!

lol ...was writing the above while jibjob was writing his ...seems it's a common solution.

NB - I have a spare stainless steel cafetiere if you want Panto - never use it and it wont smash too easily!
