Morning all. I know that there are among us some accomplished musicians so wondered if any of you could give me some advice.

I started taking guitar lessons a couple of years ago but had to quit when I was made redundant to save the pennies. I was really enjoying it and still strum away when I have time, though still only doing very basic stuff (more of a strummer than a picker, can't get my fingers to do what they should yet.)

Thing is I go in for surgery on my knee on Monday which is going to mean I'm totally non weight bearing for 3 to 4 weeks, and fairly restricted for another 2 to 3 after that. As a result thought I might take the chance to try and improve my playing.
Can any of you suggest any decent online tuition resources that may be of help? Only condition, which I know will restrict the options, is that it will have to be cheap or ideally free.

Be really grateful for any ideas.

My son learns from tutorials on youtube. Players like Tom morello from Audioslave (ratm) and several others teach on there.

I use lick library and guitar tricks

both are subscription services though

I second YouTube as a resource. There is a lot of good stuff on there for you to learn from. If you want to know how to play a specific song just search for it and there is usually somebody who has posted a video teaching how to play it step by step.

i've never really given it a look but thats a good start

Guitar Pro is an excellent piece of software, though pricey at around 50 euros - (sure you can find it online wink wink)
guitar tabs you can search on google, the text based ones are more times wrong than right. however guitar pro files are done very well and 90% of the time are spot on

theres also free/shareware guitar programs that generate chords and show you the way to play virtually any chord tabs will throw at you. again find online wink wink

look at classical guitarists on youtube and the way the left hand is stretched with the fingers hovering above each respective fret in whatever position the guitarist is playing. i can send over some PDFs of exercises I give my students if you want, though a lot of them are quite hard to follow without the 1 on 1 treatment

Thanks everyone for advice. Been using Justin a bit and agree its quite good.
Just always good to know what you better players rate as worthwhile stuff.

My bass player friend in the grunge jam clip lol I posted recently posts loads of bass lessons on YouTube.

He does it in his own style and my students really like it.

Not maybe for yourself as a six stringer but for anyone else who is interested.

Most important thing is you, not the method/teacher. Play, play and play some more ...it takes time but it is worth it.
