Kind of a rough comparison given that Hold Your Hand was released in 1964 and Honky Tonk Women in 1969; a lot happened between those years, though you're right about one thing--the Beatles were not as interesting in singing about getting laid.Originally posted by G-man View PostComment

ive never gotten into the stones, and ive tried i really have.
i just find they have a lot of attitude and not much soul, slightly fake dare i say it
falling in love with early beatles... all the covers... all the 2 minute gems
with the beatles... great album: devil in her heart, money, you really got a hold on me (the live BBC version of this is just incredible), all i've got to do, it won't be long, till there was you...

Like the Beatles, don't get me wrong but it's like Muzac.
The Stones is down and dirty, the first three albums took me down so many wonderful roads of discovery when I was young. In those days before the glimmer twins discovered writing their own tunes and while Brian Jones was still 'with it' they played fantastic covers of old blues songs.
They led me to Arthur Alexander, down the road apiece (still in my top ever songs) and so many more.
And that's before they moved on to write some of the worlds greatest rock songs, and they are still at it.
Britains greatest export brand!
Now if you are going to have a Stones vs Who poll I am in real trouble.Nic

Have to say was brought up on Beatles by my drumming father. Have never been in to the stones so Beatles for me, love their later stuff.Comment

Stones for me definitely.
Beatles certainly wrote some great songs, can't deny that, but they also wrote a lot of stuff that to me was commercial crap playing to their image. Their better stuff was more the stuff that didn't necessarily fit their image.
Stones were more raunchy and cutting edge and pushed the boundaries more in my opinion. They upset people with the raw nature of there music and lyrics but stuck to it and proved that there was a big audience out there looking for something different, more explicit and exciting.
Like I say, the beatles did have some great songs but I think that often they wrote stuff that would suit their fans, whereas the Stones seemed to write what they felt and what they wanted to play, take it or leave it.
Could be this was record label decisions as Beatles had some great stuff that was never released as singles while Stones management maybe gave them a free-er rein.
Was always the cleancut Beatles or the rebellious Stones and for me the Rebels won.Comment
