In an Ideal world no, but In general yes. It depends on the situation and the individuals circumstances.

      The Gods Must Be Crazy!

In the words of Wee Willy Horton back in the early '60s....'Can't we all just get along?"

A question that remains unanswered to this day!

Everyone has a right to choose. Having said that, certain people do have a duty to act in the best interests of others, be they for personal or professional reasons. The latter of course would not necessarily be limited to the person working in an official capacity during the "material time" in question. That time obviously being the time that person decides to do "certain things and not for others".

I agree with Kdot and r0lan6--it is context dependent, and a couple of those contexts include such things as official duties (police, military, government officials, etc.) and, I'm assuming, maturity (adults vs. children). As abstractions, these differences in power make sense, but in individual cases, of course, they get abused. I've met many silly parents and look at their children with deep sympathy.

I was saying this in the Caning thread, but I think that things are often made OK through silence, even though many think they ought not be. Silence is a form of action through inaction, which reminds me of voting...

There are no double standards. Only behaviour determined by the power you possess to get away with it!
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

Seems to be everywhere, maybe we should cane everyone and not just the kids. I doubt we'll be able to do that either!!

Massively diverse subject this one Mike.

You must have something specific in mind, why don't you share it?

If it's a generic query, then yes it has to be ok as for one to do something (for someone/body, I assume as you didn't say) and not for others as there might be a multitude of reasons behind such actions.

I think double standards are everywhere and are just a part of life and society in general.

Is it a "Do as I say, not as I do!" concept you mean?

It all depends on the money and power you posess. I'm reminded of the old adage, "the more bread you have, the less shit you have to eat!"
No man has the right to fix the boundary of a nation.
No man has the right to say to his country, "Thus far shalt thou go and no further."
