There was a doc on the BBC that looked at the history of televised election debates. It looked closely at the US programmes.
The coaching of Obama was an eye-opener. He seemed quite clueless when he answered some questions to camera. Not just a little phased - but quite hopeless.
I'd never seen anything except Perfect Obama before then. I was surprised.
(Don't put me with the Tea Party boys because of this observation!).
I hate telly-polished politicians and these debates which might have been considered a significant exercise in democracy are actually adverts for Pepsi, Coca-Cola and some cheap generic cola or other with shitloads of aspartame.
I'd like to have seen the Urine Sample in a 4-member line-up. I heard his "Party's" website was taken down yesterday and replaced with a screen of how useless he is. One of the best moments of the election so far.
I certainly won't waste my time on 3-Leaders Telly Debates again.
Just had a look on Wikipedia, and I do like some of the OMRLP's ideas:
The rest of the party's manifesto included:
Refusing to sign up to the euro, but inviting the rest of Europe to join the ?pound
Drivers can go straight over a roundabout when there's no traffic coming "to make driving through Milton Keynes more fun"
Traffic cops "too stupid" for normal police work to be retrained as vicars
Withdrawal of MPs' ?118,000 expenses allowance, and the money "in future be distributed to the poor and needy so that they can waste it instead"
Any MP whose constituency sells off a school playing field for development will be required to relinquish their own back garden as a replacement sports facility for the school
All motorways to become massive cycle tracks instead
All speed cameras will be abolished and replaced by a new device fitted to cars which will automatically slow down to the speed limit when driven though an infra-red beam
