  • The election debates

Well the final election debate was on last night, no more to come now although the campaign does go on for a little under a week now. What have you thought about these debates and have they changed your opinions of the parties at all?

I am also interested to know whether our American friends have been watching these debates or following the election campaign? I have heard its actually got some news coverage over there...

I enjoyed the debates, I just hope people don't vote on "TV personality" over actual policies.

Talking about the important issue last night, I noticed GB's tie was a purple with small white polkadots ...isn't this the exact style someone on here recommended a few weeks ago?

        they are watching us

Load of rubbish. No costings, no policies and no hope! Nothing for Scotland as everything discussed was for England.

Waste of time broadcasting them here!

Sorry. The only word we get over <---- here is that Gordon Brown insulted a voter when he forgot he was wearing a live mic.

Inclined to agree with that one. We have so many devolved issues here none of which have been discussed here by the so called "big three". I didn't see all of question time last night but, from what I did see, Alex Salmond (like him or loathe him) certainly put the cat among the pigeons a few times and left the other panellists squirming and unable to answer. Very worrying to think that economic policies may only be being put in place for only a percentage of the debt involved and therefore spending cuts forecasts will not be worth the paper they're written on. Seems we're being told only what we want to hear to enable the government to get in using only very short term measures and that no one is willing to risk telling us the truth and let us know how much years of mismanagement coupled with the global economic crisis is really going to cost us.
None of us wants to be hit in the pocket but being realistic we are going to be and I for one would rather know the truth of how bad things are. Sadly, all the parties know that a large percentage of the electorate will only vote by looking at what seems best short term and hope that the bad times will simply go away. This sticking your head in the sand method probably wouldn't have worked for an ostrich, and certainly won't for us.
Time to bite the bullet and accept that the belts will have to be tightened big time and it won't be good news for a lot of us.
No matter who is voted in at Westminster I think they will get at most 1 term cos it won't be long till the shit hits the fan and everyone else will simply say we would have done things differently. BOLLOCKS.

Anyone wanting my upbeat views on other subjects don't hesitate to ask.

Not sure if it's OK to do this.

But it's an interesting take on the UK elections.

Even considered voting for Brown when I saw his tie ...sorry if I am trivialising the whole process but it is a load of bollox.

We get a choice of 2 or 3 different liars who base their campaign on appealing to the lowest common denominator and then do what the hell they like when they come to power.

At least GB changed up his tie. NC only has one suit!

I watched all three debates fairly dutifully.

Silver tongues and slick mannerisms have never pulled me away from a rock solid set of personal values. I'll vote for my guy despite how he comes across on screen in a line of three.

I thought - by the Sky debate - that it had become very repetitive in soundbite and in gesture. Last night - the third debate - I nearly went and tidied up under the stairs. Their snide had been stage managed and it was dull as a dose of the clap.

I could have been watching Ruth Watson's Hotel Suite Troilism, really. I'd probably have been more moved.

I watched the last of the Party leaders' one-to-one interviews with Jeremy Paxman last night. Questions from a challenging interviewer are far more revealing than the washing line format of the three hyped debates, I think.

Very true. GB never looked comfortable and close to anger most of the time - It is looking like anger may be a big part of his personality.

I was speaking to my mate in London last night who told me that his circle of friends reckoned that Alex Salmond was the only one with any ideas on Question Time! And they can't even vote for him!
