I have just come across this on an American site and I propose a little competition:

TOBACCO SEEDS:

Sampler of 100 Virginia tobacco seeds, 100 Havana tobacco seeds,
and 100 Connecticut tobacco seeds.$9.99
100 Connecticut tobacco seeds $4.99
100 Havana tobacco seeds $4.99
100 Virginia tobacco seeds $4.99

Now if I get 10 takers I will invest in 200 Havana seeds and send each of you 20 seeds. It's then up to you each to grow the plants on, harvest and mature your tobacco and roll your own cigar for a get together and smoke off.

Any of you out there got green fingers.

Oh, and if you live in Pinar del R?o don't even think about it.

Oddly enough I was browsing this the other day - very interesting to try at any rate.

Shame that now at the point of shredding or preparation for smoking you are liable for duty to HMRC... if you let on then again, I could be out of date.

Would have loved a go but greenhouse & veg garden all full and know I wouldn't manage in the flower garden (that's the wife's bit so no chance there!)

Don't know anything about tobacco growing, but isn't it a bit late to sow seeds now. Some require cold stratification, some of my trees required years in the freezer before planting lol

I will have to read up on tobacco requirements, maybe even breakout the hydroponics from the shed

If anyone wants to take part in the 'grow your own' project please PM me your address and I will divide them up and send them out and you can start tilling your plot and preparing your sungrown patch.

That's awesome but your lucky if anything germinates in U.K. Also tobacco seeds are really small and 20 might not even germinate 1 plant :P.

Apparently growing is the easy bit, the cultivating without drying out to much is the hard bit.. from what ive read.. anyway.
