  • Great Quotes

Okay then, we have the jokes thread. Now let's have a quotes thread!

I love quotes, I have them listed everywhere - though I rarely use them (for fear of coming across clich?d...)

But, here's one that just made me remember the joy of a good quote:

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive well preserved body; rather to skid into the casket sideways, body thoroughly worn out, covered in scars and screaming: “Yahoo! What a ride!”

Not sure who the above was, but I'd like to claim credit for the following, which I came up with for my signature on these forums:

A man should always have an even number of vices, that way they cancel each other out.

Please add plenty of your own - Churchill and Mark Twain being perennial favourites.

    Nice ones. Here's my favorite:

I'm a big fan of Charles Barkley...this is one of his many funny quotes!

"Somebody hits me, I'm going to hit him back. Even if it does look like he hasn't eaten in a while."

I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly.
        Winston Churchill

        Always funny!

                • The internet has stopped people from going out and being with each other, creating stuff. Instead they sit at home and make their own records, which is sometimes OK but it doesn?t bode well for long-term artistic vision. It?s just a means to an end. We?re talking about things that are going to change the world and change the way people listen to music and that?s not going to happen with people blogging on the internet. I mean, get out there, communicate. Hopefully the next movement in music will tear down the internet. Let?s get out in the streets and march and protest instead of sitting at home and blogging. I do think it would be an incredible experiment to shut down the whole internet for five years and see what sort of art is produced over that span. There?s too much technology available. I?m sure, as far as music goes, it would be much more interesting than it is today.
                  • Elton John, blaming the internet for destroying good music

                • You can call me a fat, balding, talentless old queen who can't sing ? but you can't tell lies about me
                  • Elton John after winning a libel case against The Sun which had falsely accused him of having underage sex with rent boys.

"The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom" - William Blake

This is quite relevant to me given the large number of things I have excessed with in my life.

This quote hit me really hard when I first read it many years ago.

"Three things that never come back, the spent arrow, the spoken word, the lost opportunity." W.G.P

Yeh, I always liked that one. It always used to come to mind when I was sent to Birmingham on work training courses. There was always some loud mouth that thought he was so clever but usually dispelled that myth first time he opened his gob.

                              I also like.......

"To be conscious that you are ignorant is a great step to knowledge"
                              Benjamin Disraeli.

I wish one of the guys that works for me would take it on board.

Jeez, I must sound like a right grumpy old git today
