Human intellect at birth is rather like a tabula rasa, a pure potentiality that is realised through education - Ibn Sina.
Oh, very controversial! Where do we all stand on nature v nurture?
Personally, the tabula rasa theory holds a lot of water for me, but I cannot write off what seems like innate behaviour, i.e. everything before object permanence!
No man has the right to fix the boundary of a nation.
No man has the right to say to his country, "Thus far shalt thou go and no further."
In the middle of this great book, and here is my favorite quote from it thus far:
"There are certain queer times and occasions in this strange mixed affair we call life when a man takes this whole universe for a vast practical joke, though the wit thereof he but dimly discerns, and more than suspects that the joke is at nobody's expense but his own."
