Now I know there are quite a lot of users of Apple?s iPhone on this forum, so I thought I would share.
Opera is a web browser developed for a multitude of platforms. Originally it was a PC browser and I have been a long time user and fan of the browser, back from the days when you had to pay for it. In recent years they have been doing a lot of development in the mobile sector and the result is a multi platform browser that seems to beat most stock browsers on mobile platforms (so much so that Sony Ericsson issue the Xperia X1 with the Opera Mobile browsers as the default as opposed to Mobile internet explorer.
It was recently announced that Opera had submitted a version Opera Mini to Apple?s App Store for approval for use on the iPhone. There has been a lot of discussion as to whether or not it will be approved as it more or less directly competes with safari on the iPhone ? most people have been leaving heavily towards the belief that the app would be rejected.
20 days, 8 hours and 31 minutes later ? The app is approved and becomes available on the app store.
There has been a preview of the browser already, before it was even submitted to the app store, but it doesn?t do the browser justice. It is much faster than safari, feels more stable and is just a much more pleasurable user interface. It has added some features such as search in page and when you press back ? it doesn?t have to load the last page again ? the tabs are much nicer.
The only issue I have with the browser is that there are only two levels of zoom, which is a pain, but something I am getting used to and that at first it wouldn?t connect and I had to change a setting to get it to work, but I believe that issues is down to the individual mix of my iphone, its settings and my network- not a general issue.
Opera has already replaced Safari as the browser on my home page of the iPhone and I urge you all to try it ? just to see what you think (its free).
