  • Writing Stations

Well, some months ago I purchased a picture of a dog smoking a cigar - rather nice. It is now, finally, adorning my wall, above the desk upon which I write all my turgid rubbish about cigars... I thought I'd put up a photo of it...

You will doubtless notice how untidy the desk is... full of cigar related bits and bobs, general magazines, a couple of books (which I couldn't be bothered to take back to the bookcase, all of two feet away...), a few print outs of journal articles and there's even a beret buried under there somewhere (unfortunately no longer my beloved navy blue, replaced by rifle green )...

Does anyone else have an interesting writing station, or interesting cigar related picture adorning their office (rather than smoking den) wall?

Well, I think most people saw my man cave thread, that's my writing station at home. At work I have a boring desk, with space for my laptop, sat next to the mother of all A3 printers for printing photographic prints...trying to convice work that they should buy me a Dye-Sub printer

Absolutely! The paper trays are open, it's only the rest of it's buried...

M&S use dye-subs, I used to fix them and do swap outs for them. As you know, great prints, but the weight of the things! Not lightweight, especially if lifting them by yourself.

Not to derail your thread Simon, but I was jus over at your blog, I wonder if you would make the pictures of cigars during reviews thumbnails that are clickable to magically conjure up bigger versions?

It would make a nice bit of cigar porn.

Edit: It seems some of the pictures already are clickable. Sorry about that. Maybe you could leave the original pic size a bit bigger?

Awesome station! What software do you use to record? I used to use cubase when I had a music work station. Kinda miss it.

Logic is my main workhorse... with various plugins and bits n pieces. I used to use ProTools a lot mainly for compatibility and when someone else is paying for an HD system with Apogee converters I still will, but otherwise I'm comfy with Logic... its a great writing tool.

I think if you miss it you owe it to yourself to splurge on a new system. There is an awesome progarmme called Reaper which is a free download (although they'd like a donation of $60... which they deserve)... check it out. http://www.cockos.com/reaper/

That looks killer--maybe this summer I'll load it up and give it a twirl. Thanks for the heads up!

Done and done! Rolled out the new, bigger, photos in today's Charatan PC review.

Drewmidorn - that is a top-drawer working space. Wish I had the talent to warrant that (as it is, my harmonica has recently been destroyed and I'm over 100 miles away from my piano...) It's certainly a wise decision to keep that room free of cigars.
