  • Anyone here a fan of The Wire?

Since I'm watching the entire series again for the third time (on the final season now) I am filled with the same kind of respect and admiration for the makers of this program that I felt the first time I watched it. I'm sure it's become quite popular now and many people have heard of it, but not too many have actually watched it.

The show is set in Baltimore and Baltimore is essentially what the show is about, the first season focuses on the drug trade, and the following seasons go on to show us the ports, the politics, the schools and finally the media. I am not selling this very well, but if you like well acted, well scripted, realistic and gritty cop shows (and calling this a cop show is a freakin travesty) give it a shot. All the characters are well developed, and it shows life as it is, not as you normally see it on the TV screen.

If you haven't seen it, set aside some time, buy the boxset (or borrow it off that friend whos been trying to push it into your DVD player for the last few years) and revel in the glory of the greatest TV show ever made.

And if that doesnt sell you, one of the main characters, Bunk Moreland is hardly ever seen on screen without a cigar in his mouth.

I think I'm going to have to buy the box sets of this. I've read many good things about the show and watched excellent excerpts. Then, last year, whilst on holiday, I'd watch The Wire after everyone else went to bed and before I did (I always have to be last in, first out - not sure why, because I love lying in bed).

I think I saw four episodes (it was on BBC2, if I recall correctly). They were fantastic, I just never got around to making it part of my schedule otherwise.

About to sit down and begin this--I watched three episodes a while back and realized that I'd have to start from the start with a serious go. My friends revere this show.

Love it. I have watched all seasons twice end-to-end. Has been mentioned several times on here before in admiration of Bunk who smokes at least one cigar per episode.

Also a curiosity that two of the lead characters (McNulty and Stringer Bell) are played by English actors putting on Baltimore accents.

Highly recommended as a deep, engaging, superbly written, dynamic piece of television.

Yeh it's a great series. I watched most episodes with a cigar and whiskey in hand.

best US series ive ever watched!

I watched all 5 series in a short space of time, and the writing just blows everything else out of the water... makes dexter, 24 etc look like they're written by kids.

1st and 4th seasons were my fave.

The writing and acting are second to none. Its an amazing series... for anyone who likes a bit of "non hollywood" drama you could do a lot worse than buy the box set.
