I've tried walking into a baccy shop and buying some. dead easy!
Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

I was thinking about trying to grow my own, thats as far as it got though lol. I think as taxes increase we will see a rise in people trying to grow their own.

Exactly ..... 'cos if we did, Imperial Tobacco would have half of Lincolnshire and most of Suffolk under cultivation.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

Tobacco will grow in Ireland and the UK.
King James I suppressed its cultivation, Charles II extended the prohibition with a fine of ?1600 per acre.
Climate is not the reason tobacco is not grown in this part of the world. It's back breaking work that needs lots and lots of cheap manual labour.
Some interesting stuff here, regarding Ireland specifically.

More links on the right hand side of that page.
There was a cA article a few years ago about a chap in the US who grew his own cigar tobacco. I think the cigars turned out OK but some of the most expensive he ever had after all the costs were counted.
