  • Orange mobile problem today

Orange network coverage stopped last night in my town (Deal, Kent) and hasn't come back on. My phone had no power - switched itself off quite bizarrely twenty miles away - from about 1630. I thought my phone had died.

I've checked around and nobody's Orange phone is working here currently. It's a pain.

Anyone in the UK got a similar problem at present, please?
Or is the problem a local one?

    Back on. Hurray!

We rely on these things so much!

Might you have been suffering blocking signals from over-seas?

I know people who live in the area who have disrupted TV & radio signals from time to time (foreign-speaking people hi-jacking programmes on occaisions, I believe).

Nah mobile signals are too localised to be a problem from France

Could have just been that your local base station was down, and there isn't another one near enough to do the job.

Orange have had several network outages during the last few days.

A general tip, if you rely on your mobile phone have a second PAYG on a different network as a back-up.

              Good suggestion.

If I take the train from here to London, the mobile network changes to Bougitel (I think that's right) when the train runs along the shore at the bottom of the White Cliffs of Dover.

We get periodic "interruption" to the radio here in Deal. Loads of French FM radio stations come across, and they sometimes knock out the Radio 4 signal. That's usually when it's hot, so it's not very often.

I don't mind the frog take-over as I'm fluent in French and I get to know what Marie-Joelle from Oye-Plage is going to spend her prize voucher from Monsieur Cuir on.

It'll no doubt be something in leather.

I'm on orange or 0 (zero) range as I call it and it was fine all through the night as I spent most of it on a conferance call to madrid.

Was an orange customer for years and though generally a happy bunny, did get bit p***ed off with unexplained outages from time to time.
Now with 3 who tend to keep you well informed by text of any planned outages or work which may cause service probs.
Better stick disclaimer in now. I am not and never have been involved with 3 or orange other than as a customer, and in general have been happy with both.
There, that should keep me right with any of yoi legal types out there.

This is a right bugger because if you don't notice it and make a call you will be billed as a roaming call!
