  • Castration

Has anyone on here had an excitable dog castrated because it was an excitable dog?

My relatively recently adopted 6 year old golden labrador is sometimes very excitable.

My wife is more and more pro-op to try to reform him.
I want him to keep his dignity.

If you've nursed a dog through this big difference, would you say that it has turned your dog into a better boy?

My understanding Bryan was that this can help with aggression.

Are family members, excitable around/with him?

This is mostly when we have been out and come back after a few hours shopping, for example.

It's an excitement at greeting, therefore.

(Off to Avatar 3D. Please counsel more. It will go quiet for a while).

Man he looks well, you have walked a few pounds off him Bryan. Perhaps he's just fighting fit now.

Got no experience of the 'de-nageration' as I believe it's knows technically in Veterinary circles. We only ever had female dogs.

Just goes to show how much he's being loved if he's that excitable.

Not sure I'd go with the castration just cos he's being happy.
I certainly wouldnt be to chuffed if I woke up one morning in a cheerful mood whistling a tune as I went down for my cornflakes and then ..... WALLOP! the wifes dragged me down the docs and before you know it the family jewels are in the bucket.

How can you castrate a dog with a face like that? It's almost like he knows what's being discussed on this thread!

My folks used to have a dog that was castrated as early as possible. He still got hysterical after being left for any amount of time.

It all depends on how you define "excitable" :P

Imagine this next bit in the voice of hard drinking, hard smoking, grizzled old Mexican -
'An eef de ladies no like eem without dee cajones ... well den hey, I say dem es!

Yes, not happy about the idea mind, but yes, I know your dilemma and feel your pain at the thought.

Honestly? ...Yes. Feel sad for him ('eel never be a pappy'), but the truth is he's having a happier life because of it. We take him to places now that we couldn't have before, trust him off the lead so much more, and that means he's getting tons more freedom to run about and tire himself out (instead of dragging me behind him, with me holding on to the lead for grim death like some comedy sketch).

Keen to see this, I'm a total sucker for the 3D gizmo. Can't wait for this on the PS3.
I aim to be the oldest (and hopefully) best video games player in the retirement home - 'Hey, I remember playing 'pong' back in the good old days'

Would love a review if poss?

we had our labradoodle chopped at 12months old - my wife's uncle is a vet and assured us its best to have them done as they get giddy when they pick up the smell of a lady dog, and it drives them mad cos they want their leg over, mines still stupid after 2 years and still tries to hump anyone who decides to play with him - human or dog

                              Bryan,
Without whispering, a la TV celeb, you can try to address this by modelling your, and the family's behaviour, which should in turn have an effect upon his.

When returning, as good as ignore him during a few returns, calmly building up your 'noticing' him as his excitement (hopefully) subsides during this. See how this goes, and feedback.
