This is something we are considering with our Dogue de Bordeaux as he's a nut case half the time

As for the Avatar game, its actually pretty good but finished it in 6 hours, so hire it from blockbuster instead of buying it

This is cool! Thank you for your advice, men. And Cat - What a handsome dog!

"Excitable" in this instance does not mean "a humper". Not towards ourselves or to visiting friends. Mind you, out there he scrunches ANYTHING dog-like. We'd like to walk with him off the lead because he is too strong. He has no road sense whatsoever.

cj - Yes. Re-model the family's behaviour, indeed.

It is the excitement at our arriving home that sometimes just doesn't stop for hours. The jumping up on all fours that is more small dog Boxer-type behaviour. It goes on and it stops me typing into this as well gumtree and stuff.

We have done something we never did with our previous lab. We allow him upstairs at night. He was waking us up with some downstairs howling over Christmas so we thought... Why not?

So his bed is up there.

My missus won't let him on the bed, but when she has dozed off, I let him up with me in the middle. It's dead primeval, and I like the Surroundsound breaths.

(That's not supposed to sound bisexualesque, but it clangs that way).

      Avatar 3D?

If I said anything, I'd spoil it.
If I said I thought it was a bit long, you might begin to get me.
      (Damn. I said something).

I hear District 13 (I've forgotten title) is out on DVD and I know I'll lap that up.

The Dog Whisperer guy came up as a gig on my 02 email circular last week. Amazing, really.

i wouldnt waste the time or $. he is excitable because of his breed. i have a chocolate lab which is the same way. sometimes he goes way over the top to be honest. like when i get home he just will jump on me and all he wants is my attention. problem is that he is 90 pounds of nothing but muscle! so its tough to keep him off. i have to give in and sit on the couch and let him calm down. another reason i dont want to do this to my dog (Dozer) is because he comes from a great hunting blood line and im wanting to stud him out someday. in the one pic, which may be tough to see, he is getting angry with the other dog ralphis (yorkshire terrior) ralphie is a little crazy sometimes!

king -Brown ones are bonkers! How can you cope? Especially with the evil pose in Snap 1?!

sonof - She's the bast. Not me! lol

I think I answered my own question in what I subsequently revealed. My dog's been allowed at the bed level of the master and mistress.

He isn't taking massive advantage. This breed is too soppy and affectionate.

cj - I remember that 'not showing affection' thing again now that you have brought it up and I'll have another go at it.

And Nic, back at the start - We have taken masses off weight off him since he arrived. As the dog-slimming story often goes, it's now time to apply the same techniques to ourselves!

Yeah Bryan, just completely tone down your greetings and interactions with him on your return: simple acknowledgement will suffice. This should encourage a reduction in his excitement. Failing that, cut his bollocks off

When we had our retired Guide Dog at the age of 2, (neutered when we got him), he used to go quite insane when we got home and take some while to calm down. I think it's just a lab thing really. He'd still try and have sex with cushions, which provided endless entertainment for my brother and me.

My relatively recently adopted 6 year old golden labrador is sometimes very excitable.

My wife is more and more pro-op to try to reform him.
I want him to keep his dignity.

If you've nursed a dog through this big difference, would you say that it has turned your dog into a better boy?

                      Hi Robusto,

We have a young cocker cross who we had castrated as soon as he was old enough, and I am afraid it didnt really help at all...it only helped when he came home sedated...but that soon wore off!

Just right for this dodgy doggy thread, just spotted this on twitter from Viz-Top Tips

DOG OWNERS on walks. Make your dog carry a Tesco bag with your poo in it to make it appreciate what you do for it.

                          LOL!

I'm hoping the balls-off chat is forgotten.
I will go with temporary mental any day.

Waste of time removing the lads danglers. Even aggression is unlikely to be affected by the op as once a habit is formed a bollock removal will not change it. The dog is happy to greet you home and his behaviour will be governed by your reaction. Try getting some advice from web on behaviour training and make sure everyone the dog meets sticks to doing whatever you decide on. He'll soon get the message and settle down.. Remember your dog is smart and can soon work out what he can get away with.
                              Good luck.

Ps there are exceptional circumstances. Ie. Chewing humidor or fine cigar warrants immediate testicle removal!!!
