Looking for hotel reccommendations!

Hi guys!

Just wondering if any of you could recommend a hotel in London for me. I've been invited down for a friend's birthday on the Friday night; and now have a standardisation meeting to attend on the Saturday so was going to make a weekend of it! I've spent the last hour searching and have been a bit swamped - so far have looked at the expensive (Lanesborough); "mid-price" (No 10 Manchester St) and "lower mid price" (Thistle hotels) - anyone had any decent experiences they wish to share?

Ive been to the thistle in London city centre, cant remember what street though but it was the big fooker in the centre. its a modern clean hotel, big rooms, decent bar.

For the price you cant go wrong. Better than a lot of the boutique hotels that way that have aged horribly.

no particular suggestion for a specific hotel, but laterooms.com has very good deal at times. I use it all the time for work-related travel.

Depends what area of London you want to be in TJ, as there are hundreds, and how much you want to spend... when I'm at west london end, the NH is a good bet, central and a bit more pricey, the Dorchester is good, the one the boys stayed at for the 1 year herf near St Paul's is supposed to be ok too....

Well my night out on the Friday is in North London (between Tufnell Park and Archway tube stations). Have no idea where my meeting will be on the Saturday - but will be central london regardless. Prob looking at ?149-200 a night max. to be honest.

Not sure if there's a deal available within your price range, but if somewhere small, exclusive & unique in a quiet backwater very close to JJ Fox & Green Park tube sounds appealing, do check this out:

Not a personal reccommendation (last place I stayed in London was a ?30 room in Kings Cross - NOT recommended!) - but when I worked for a large firm of surveyors in St James, the partners regularly used the hotel for client entertaining, partners meetings et al & they knew a thing or two about fine living.

Cheers for the trip advisor advice guys - and the dukes hotel recommendation. After wrestling with my financial conscience and deciding I could do with a treat I flipped a coin between the Dukes hotel and Manchester Place and finally I've reserved myself a room at 10 Manchester Street for the weekend. After hearing the nice things peeps have had to say about it on here in the herf threads etc it will be nice to experience it!

Bit more than I'd usually pay - ?149 per night; but I'm having a double room etc. Got to treat myself sometimes
