  • Ideas needed, invited to 1920's fancy dress party!

Next weekend I have been invited to a 1920's fancy dress party! Now, for me this is great since I like formal wear and I like the period clothing styles...however, I don't know what to wear!

All the women will be turning up looking chic no doubt, and we, the males will be outnumbered 3to1 at least. So, I think I might stick to the formal evening wear...but should I go all-out and go white tie just for the sake of the party?

Could be fun, but I cant think of much to dress as unless I go for some 1920's gangster theme...which I wont like lol.

    Anyone got any other ideas?

I will of course take a cigar with me too!

Now that sounds like my kinda party!

Last one I went to, I met a flapper called 'Fanny Shaker', and boy, could she!

However, back to your question, if you're not keen on looking like an extra from 'Bugsy Malone' (a great film but not everyone can carry off the look), stick with the formal evening wear and go for more of a 'Ragtime' look.

White bow tie and waist coat etc, paired with a few period accessories, i.e. a silver topped cane, top hat, white gloves and scarf, fob watch and my own personal favourite, a gold monocle, all available from most fancy dress outlets/second hand shops.

You'll be beating them off with a stick (or cane), in this clobber!

Hm I think I will go white tie. I like the idea of trying to find a top hat that looks good!

I think a nice light tweed suit a la Berty Wooster complete with cigarette holder and dry martini glass (full natch).

Alternatively I love a military uniform (dress uniform natch) nice bum freezer jacket and tight black trousers. You will be beating the women off with a stick!!

Yes the tweed was another option, or a fgolfer in the good old plus4's - but sourcing the outfit could prove to be difficult.
