  • Patio heaters

I'm moving house soon so will no longer have the luxury (!) of being able to sit in a double-glazed porch area to smoke a fine puro.

I'm assuming some of you have patio heaters to smoke under and I'd like to know your thoughts on them. Gas or electric? Running costs? Stability? Likelihood it will get stolen, etc. Anything you think relevant, feel free to chime in!

I remember a guy pitching a new type on Dragons Den a while ago, but can't for the life of me think what they were called

i have a large gas patio heater in my garden. i use it 2 or 3 times each week for maybe 40 minutes.
the gas costs ?27 euro (suppose thats around ?30) and does last quite a while, about 3 months (you can do the math!)
i think they're great and now is the time to hunt down a bargain.
watch out where you place it as my neighbours was blown over during a gale and completely written off.
      welcome to the great outdoors!

I think you can also get them to run on Calor gas .... that might be less costly than Mains or Electric. Problem I see Dave is that you're only gonna be out there short stretches of time. How long does it take for the heater to heat up the area?
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

bang it on full and within 5 minutes you'll be as snug as a bug in a rug.
mine runs on calor patio gas.

one tip - dont bother with the lighting mechanism - just put a match up to the outlet and it will light instantly - i used to spend ten minutes waiting for the spark to ignite.

Sounds like it may be worthwhile then. I'll wait until I see where we end up renting first, but I'm pleased to know my outside time won't be as horrific as it could be. Ta folks!

can't you get an infra red heater that heats only you and not the air around you ?

Just moving to a house after being in a flat for way too long, must be on the top of my list - along with a BBQ. Seeing as it's winter, the heater comes first.

I have a small wood burner outside at the mo, and I can tell you that when the weather is snowy like this at the mo, it's great sitting in front of the fire smoking a decent cigar in the fresh crisp air and being warm too..!

Got the extension going up soon and one other thing is for the garden to be changed and I have found a great outside log burning stove to take centre place.....Roll on the cold nights...
