I go to the oxfam book shop a lot , great military history section btw and cheap , but picked up a farewell to arms by EH , was after old man and the sea , but at 50 p thought I'd give it a go
I 've been reading the old James Bond books. In the last couple of months I read Casino Royal, Gold Finger and Dr No. I'd forgotten how Much better the books are than se of the films.

I've only read some of the short stories and the recent Faulks one, good fun but I prefer Le Carr? for my cold war spy fix.
Le Carre is in a different league, he is a master of the English cold war story.
I'm going to have to get a couple more of his books. I've (ashamedly) only read one thus far - 'A Delicate Truth'. The early parts of the book were abysmally written, but it really got going after the first hundred pages, cracking story and the writing improved.
Currently deciding which fiction book to pick up next. Whether to return to the Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwell (I'm about half way through, but haven't read one for a few years), or go for a quick summer holiday hit of John Grisham. Hemingway is catching my eye though - Fiesta: The Sun Also Rises is sitting unread on my desk as I type...
On the non-fiction front I'm currently splitting my time between a book on training cocker spaniels, one on advertising, and one on viticulture.

Nice to see some other Le Carre fans on here. My favourites are the Karla Trilogy and also The Secret Pilgrim which I recently enjoyed. Got into his books about 2 years ago and while Ive already read a lot, still plenty to read.
Looking forward to the TV series 'The Night Manager' and the film of 'Our Kind of Traitor'.
Having just been to Cuba my mother pointed me towards Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea, quite a short book but a brilliant read, I was living on basically a fishing boat while I was out there so it is very fitting to read now!
It's an excellent novella, isn't it!? Stephan from these parts recommended it to me a few years ago, very glad he did. Have become a bit of a Hemingway lover since. I'd recommend To Have and Have Not if you enjoyed The Old Man...
