I was a plasma burner (CNC operated steel profile cutter) until last monday when my machine was dismantled prior to shipping to Scotland. Now I'm just a grunt 'til I get made redundant end of january. Ho-hum.

I am a teacher working in a fairly tough school. I am happy most of the time, and pissed off more than I would wish to be with what I have to deal with.

I wanted to be a teacher from the age of 14 and it's the only job I have done full-time. I am now too old to change direction without taking a significant salary cut.

I would have loved to have been a professional musician. To have tried to make it in a band.

If it were possible to change, I would love to wake up on Monday and go to work as a plumber or plasterer or carpenter or builder. Most of my muso mates have jobs like these, and when we compare notes, they seem to be having a ball most of the time they are at work.

Of course, the recession doesn't help...

The grass is always greener, hey?...

When I left school I applied for ajob as assistannt producer at Abbey Road studios. Igot some kind of letter back saying I show promise try again later. Inever did and curse myself daily. This was in '75/'76ish. I would have met Kate Bush. Not that I fancy her, y'understand.

I'm a Senior SAP BASIS consultant / Oracle DBA for a top 3 IT services consultancy.

I've been in this game for the last 15 years and would rather do something else. It's a young mans's game (even though I'm 37) I sometimes struggle to keep up with fast moving technology.

Like robusto said "I am now too old to change direction without taking a significant salary cut."
Maybe one day when the kids have left home and the mortgage is paid off I could go off and work in a little country deli making pies.

Through most of the 1960s Dad was a salesman. His territory covered most of the east coast and some of the mid west.
The product was trash truck bodies and complete trucks as well.In time he came to realize,he could do what his clients did.Of course that was,own their own company's.
So in the late 60's with four sons,he bought a old garbage truck.
Today we have in the neighborhood of 60 trucks hitting the streets every day.

This guy ran into my truck (in the background) while it was stopped at the curb.

I'd say that last truck has definately been 'owned'

I'm in my final B.A Hons year of uni, I've discoved that Uni is really only a big government scheme to get you to spend money on tuition fees, granted I've learned somethings but it doesn't teach you bugger all about the real world, at least not much. This is in Graphic design by the way, I just can't wait for the whole thing to be over.

During summer 09, I discovered ways to use my craft to help people online with specialised jobs, When I have spare time I can bring money in via internet sources and clients, it's just having that time, which is why uni this year is being a BIG drag, when i could be making big money. I can access 'my job' anywhere which is great as I plan to travel alot, so doing business while overlooking NYC, the alps, or DE BUFFALO, is a really enticing concept. I have no ties so it's a matter of knuckling down into my business(es)
