  • Time for a new car...

Well, I've tried everything. My car's is well and truly fricked; the cam shaft/flywheel won't even turn by hand, with the plugs out the engine won't turn...dead as a doornail thanks to Dorset CC's terrible road drainage, and the flood it caused. So time for a new car

I'm not even bothering to ring my insurnace. I'm 2 months off 5 years NCB, I'm not messing that up for a car that's worth less that 2k. Time for a banger, and to sell the knackered car for parts.

    But hey, new car

I just sold my Vectra Vxr due to it costing me 5000 to keep on the road last year. Just bought a Chrysler Sebring , nice enough , all the toys cheap to run. Will put me on till I decide what I want

      lol, you think its bad?

I drive a 95 merc c class. Its cost 2500+ in repairs this year alone, I only average 15 mpg enven though lately its only been getting closer to 12. And the body needs a respray. Then again I'm oddly in love with that car. Still - i'm that kind of person that prefers retro luxury over the new complicated stuff.

Still I'm sorry to hear about the car. I hope you find what you want.
      Thanks

I hear you big bear, the vxr was getting about 15 to the gallon. I'm getting 40 in this Sebring, plus I'm getting past the fast car thing for the time being, though it was great to know my Vauxhall would piss all over the boy racers in there subaru's

I'm looking at MPVs now (my drumkit needs that space when I travel with it! ) The (older) Nissan Serena is one, as well as older offerings from Renault, Chrysler and VW. Leaning towards the Nissan at the moment. It's amazing really, my 1.2 petrol Stilo is actually more to insure than an MPV with a 2l plus turbo diesel or petrol engine...crazy!

              Nissan.

The Nissan is a well built car for sure.

Seriously? Do you have experience of them? All the reviews say they're great, albeit a bit slow and sluggish...and thirsty!

Lol that will pretty much happen with the merc too. It looks so normal, and so simple you wouldn't ever think it can make the noise it does. It's my mums at the moment and has been for some time. But she doesn't like driving it.

Although, it's nice knowing that I'm sitting in a 14 year old, car out pacing a late 08 z4, while turning on the heated passenger seat and watching my girlfriend bake :P. Then again I'm a car lover so i've learn't how to make the most of what I have. It's just odd that I like this car so much. Still to achieve greatness we must Persist Until Something Happens (push).

God bless poor old Mammeh for purchasing such an unwitting sleeper.
                  Thanks

Well it depends what you need it for. If you need a large car that can seat 5 I'm sure an old Merc E class estate will swollow up you drum kit without needing to lower the rear seats. My friend drives one and i've never seen anything with a bigger boot. And its frugal too despite the large 3L turbo'd motor.

edit - sorry I am very much a merc man.

btw if you go for something pre 2000 it will only fall in one of two tax bands. That means none of this current C02 rubbish (if only people listened to thatcher). And you wont have a computer spoiling / inhibiting your drive either.
                      Thanks

That's (the tax thing) the exact reason I'm going for something older!

Don't blame you, my Vectra was 400 quid a year

Well older cars are almost always the best choice. They've been worn in. Usually in good nick if you buy from a carefull owner. And if you pick the right one, will be around for a long time.

I'm very tempted by a merc sitting on a w123 chassis, that I see 2/3 times a week, just because they're so lovely. And since they're old insurance will be a doddle as they can potentially fall under the classic category, and again cheap road tax.
                            Thanks

I'm in the market for a new car as well, but I'm not looking at anything too old. I've got my eyes set on a 2007 Infiniti G35x with black on black.
