I might be way off the mark here, but isn't it when UK BOTL say thanks for planning to give me all those cigars, to their US buddies

Originally a celebration feast by the first american pilgrims to give thanks to god for surviving the harsh winter in a new land, they would give gifts to native indians.
it's kind of like a bank holiday for them.
Some people go for this more than xmas as it is classed as a secular holiday. What ever that means I dont know. Maybe they have more sec's?
A traditional Thanksgiving dinner often features turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie.
I believe its celebrated in Canada as well.

Oh yes, it can also be a way to thank in advance for all the lovely NC's that will be sent over for us.

You all pretty much nailed it. Kind of a tradition started with the early settler (pilgrims) that wanted nothing to do with the 'savage' indigenous people....until they almost starved to death. Then they changed their minds, learned how to farm, then had a big meal before sending them to little 'reservations' and offering them blankets infected with small pox many years later. Very touching story if you ask me

But it actually started last night with the biggest drinking night in the US. Bigger then St. Paddy's Day and NYE since everyone is going back to their home towns to meet up with friends and grovel about having to spend the whole day with Aunt Suzie and listen to Uncle Franks story about his hip replacement for the 100th time.

But it all boils down to havin a big extended family meal with turkey and all the trimmings, drink wine and beer, watch American Football, eat some more then fall asleep by 7pm. But all for a good reason...

Tomorrow is Black Friday! It marks the beginning of the Christmas holiday with massive shopping deals and some stores will open their doors to shoppers at 12am and stay open until 11pm Friday night! Yep, 23 hours of hot sticky shopping in grossly overcrowded malls. At least 1 person will be trampled to death in a mad dash to get a 50% X-Box and several will be treated and released. Good Fun!

I do miss the big meals, and having all the ladies go out shopping while I smoke down some fine cigars with my BIL though while sipping on some fine malt beverages. might just have to do that today....

My wife is from Antioch in California and I'm glad I'm over in Ireland for the week. If I was at home, she'd just be mumping and moaning about missing Thanksgiving!

Thanks guys! I'm going to feast right now and then smoke a ginormous cigar as I let my bloated belly full of turkey hang out in all its flabby glory. Then tomorrow it's back to using the button and zipper on my pants to hide it away again.
