For everyday reading I guess it would be a shame to lose the feel of a good book.
On the other hand, in the not too distant future, as storage capacity increases imagine being able to have the entire contents of the british library stored within in it and the ability to search for specific text within any of it.Free the UKCF one

And with the Kindle in the US they have demonstrated their ability to remove purchased books from every Kindle in one fell swoop without telling you.
The irony was that they were 1984 & Animal Farm. You couldn't make it up.
I think that the ebook has its place but is unlikely to replace the real deal for a very long time. Books have such an important part in our culture and history and will not be easily discarded. I love tech toys but won't get this yet. In any case, I need an option to backlight the text for surreptitious reading in bed.

My missus reads LOADS of books, so not long ago I was trying to lay the foundations, just to see if she would like some thing like this.....
NO WAY! Was the conclusion...
I think (not being a big reader bar the Daily Mail in the morning) its a - Paper, Bookmark, Book smell, Bookshelf, Book swapping with friends kind of thing...
Just my observation..Love Life - Love Cigars

It will become the norm.... I never thought i'd be carrying my record collection around in my pocket. However people don't dip in and out of books like they do albums. These will be really useful for reference books, manuals school kids and downloading the newspaper every morning thus saving paper and a journey to the newsagents. With regards to the manuals/text books though it is harder to flick back and forward in a PDF as you can't sick your fingers between a page whilst turning to another but you can look stuff up easily with software.
I love a "book". I'm an avid reader and always have a book in my bag. If I travelled for longer periods I would have one of these computer things as even going away for two or three nights usually means two novels in my carry on bag.... If i was away for two weeks I'd have to find an English bookshop wherever I went or take an extra suitcase (which ain't cheap on a budget flight) .
Real books are tactile and sometimes a new book "smells"exciting... much like vinyl used to when you got a new LP home.... however I don't own a record player anymore and I still harp on about the sound of "analogue".
I remember thinking "Who would ever drink bottled water?" "Why would I need a portable phone?" and "These spice girls are great pop but they'll never manage an Album"

I don't think they'll catch on tbh. Why carry a separate device?
Mobile phone tech will soon catch up with pull out screens or holographic displays I reckon and you'll just do it with that.
It still doesn't look, feel, smell or behave like a book though.
