At the moment, I've got the French radio on. RTL 2.

Our FM service down here in East Kent lets us get French FM channels very clearly. In really clear climate conditions, they can block out the UK channels.

Much of their output is that garbage French publicity stuff, but I like sloppy romantic ballad-type music.

If I listen to it from time to time in French, I won't be suspect like a man who likes Mariah Carey...

Good French crap music (my term) is so much more kitsch that anglo-saxon stuff with the result that it's engaging.

Anyway, I just sit here pitching the stuff and working out the chord structures as it pumps over the washing up on a foul day.

Last night was a so-so gig, so we amused ourselves by dropping in country riffs on guitar and piano into full-blooded soul numbers.

Sorry if that doesn't make sense - but it amuses us in the group.

Nobody noticed, and I love that. All dressed as bloody ghouls in the audience.

One woman was suddenly getting a stripogram, and the 'fireman' coming on to the woman was screamingly effeminate, so the whole thing looked like a lesbian showcase.

Fabulous distraction for a slow night.
